KEY OBJECTIVE:
The primary function of the underwriter role is to review and accept individual risks to maximize the financial results of an assigned book of business. This role serves as a key contact for risk placement and retention with Chubb and a resource on policy pricing coverage and administration.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Growth and Profitability of Assigned Portfolio
Meet growth and retention goals for assigned portfolio by:
Fulfilling GWP and New Business goals by writing and renewing profitable target market business
Preparing new and renewal proposals that assist producers with account retention and growth
Executing strategic initiatives and operating tactics
Employing account rounding and cross sell strategies
Adhering to Catastrophe Management strategies
Analyze customer information and account details in the underwriting pricing proposal and placement of new accounts and renewal business; ensuring the quality of business in consistent with the PRS strategy and underwriting guidelines.
Ensure the overall profitability of an assigned book of business by applying sound underwriting judgment adhering to delegated underwriting authority.
Review and properly act on findings developed from risk assessment reports.
Have an in-depth understanding of Chubbs suite of products. Make recommendations for additional coverage and services during the new line endorsement and renewal processes.
Display technical underwriting knowledge and confidence in supporting and articulating Chubb strategies on account specific decisions to internal parties and brokers.
Actively promote Chubb Personal Risk Services value proposition. Position Chubb as the client and brokers market of choice.
Effectively work and build positive relationships with the Personal Risk Service Centre Regional Underwriters PRS management Sales Managers claims and all Chubb stakeholders. Positively represent the Chubb brand internally and in the marketplace.
Transfer knowledge with teammates and support new hires with formal and informal mentorship.
Portfolio Management
Develop effective brokerage relationships with CSRs account managers producers and PL Managers through superior customer service and a solutions-oriented approach to underwriting.
Participate in annual broker business planning. Provide input on strategic initiatives and execute on specific tactics in conjunction with PRS Underwriting and Sales Management.
Adhere to all service level standards for referred transactions.
Monitor brokers trends and results compared to goals on an ongoing basis. Develop and execute specific tactics to drive improved results throughout the year.
Conduct meaningful and appropriate brokerage travel.
Maintain a high level of knowledge of the Canadian personal insurance landscape including competitors products and services. Actively share relevant information with internal stakeholders as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience in a Personal Lines role.
Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
An analytical mindset and project management skills.
Strong technical underwriting skills including knowledge of personal lines contracts.
Strong history of results and customer service orientation.
Excellent producer management skills.
A collaborative mind set with the ability to work independently.
Solid interpersonal skills to build healthy and long-term relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
