Group Tour Sales Manager Full-Time Exempt George Washingtons Mount Vernon is the home of our nations first president George Washington and is one of the most visited historic homes in America.
The Group Tour Sales Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting Mount Vernons attendance goals by generating and following up on group tour leads and becoming the face of the Mount Vernon group tour experience.
General Description: The Group Tour Sales Manager is responsible for increasing bookings of group tours at George Washingtons estate among adult and student groups. This person will build relationships with group tour operators make sales calls arrange for familiarization tours of Mount Vernon and ensure that our group tour marketing materials best represent the Mount Vernon group experience.
Essential Duties: - Increase group sales and reach or exceed Mount Vernons attendance targets.
- Evaluate and analyze visitation from group tour operators. Identify opportunities to increase business from previous and existing clients. Contact tour operators to bring in new and increased business.
- Identify group tour operators who have not visited Mount Vernon and develop a relationship with those operators to encourage visitation.
- Establish and maintain a customer relationship management database to track touchpoints with group sale leads and customers.
- Coordinate with Guest Services to schedule and confirm group bookings.
- Advocate for group tour operators internally. Solicit group feedback and present suggestions and plans on how to improve the group tour experience.
- Book familiarization tours of Mount Vernon. Greet tour operators upon arrival and provide guided tours of the estate focused on the group tour experience. Arrange for gifts and reference materials to be provided to tour operators during their visit.
- Develop a strong positioning of the museum in tour packaging and sales channels. Provide direction to graphic designers for collateral production. Write copy for group tour profile sheets website pages and other group tour promotional materials. Ensure that all marketing materials are persuasive easy to understand and have a cohesive look.
- To improve pre-visit planning and engagement coordinate the creation of group orientation videos working with a videographer (in-house or freelance) and Mount Vernon talent who will appear on camera. Share the completed videos with the appropriate team members and partners for distribution.
- Provide group tour marketing materials to the Fairfax Alexandria D.C. and Virginia DMOs. Serve as the group tour liaison for our DMOs and partners.
- Cultivate relationships with travel and tourism partners with a focus on tour operators and related associations.
- Attend group tour conferences including conferences for the Student and Youth Travel Association and the American Bus Association. Refine and deliver marketing materials for those conferences. Coordinate conference sponsorships with the Director of Marketing.
- Produce group tour sales reports and articulate opportunities for growth.
Qualifications and Education Requirements: - Bachelors degree preferred but significantly more relevant experience will be considered
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in related roles; tourism-specific sales is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an engaging phone manner
- Comfortable speaking with people of all ages and backgrounds individually or in large groups
- Experience working with domestic and international tour operators travel agents and group organizations and school and senior travel groups
- Professional writing skills and knowledge of persuasive copywriting principles.
- High level of organization and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple inquiries at once.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software and ease in learning new computer programs
- Experience with ticketing system databases; knowledge of Tessitura is a plus
- Membership in the National Tour Association American Bus Association or the Student and Youth Travel Association is a plus
- Interest in American history
