Job Description

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director for Classification and Compensation the Classification and Compensation Analyst is responsible for performing professional level technical analytical and administrative classification and compensation duties. The incumbent serves as liaison to divisional leads and constituents to ensure the accurate and timely classification reclassification and compensation of Montclair State University employees.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Counsels and educates regarding all aspects of classification and compensation.
  • Reviews job descriptions including interpretation of classification standards appropriateness of qualifications and essential duties based on the classification; ensures timely and accurate classification of positions. Ensures completion and submission of comprehensive job descriptions for all employees.
  • Conducts the reclassification process including conducting and analyzing reclassification requests conducting desk audits benchmarking compensation for internal equity and external market rates evaluating supporting documentation and making reclassification recommendations. Ensures reclassifications are processed in a timely manner and comply with all applicable compensation and classification regulations and requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with State of New Jersey Title 4A and all pertinent civil service statutes related to a civil service employees career life cycle with the University (hiring probationary and permanent status and promotion among others).
  • Assists in establishing and disseminating annual calendars and related information for classification reclassification and reappointment procedures to the University community.
  • Participates in the professional staff performance-based promotion process in compliance with the Statewide AFT collective bargaining agreement and the Universitys Administrative calendar. Ensures timeliness and thoroughness of performance-based promotion submissions.
  • Reviews performance-based promotion application materials conducts analysis and makes recommendations to the Director of Classification and Compensation.
  • Evaluates and maintains salary structures and ranges to reflect market pay.
  • Ensures compliance with multiple collective bargaining agreements University policies and federal and state laws.
  • Conducts and participates in salary surveys to assess local regional and national labor markets.
  • Researches and recommends compensation ranges on position movements and new hires by evaluating internal equity and utilizing published salary surveys for the appropriate pay grade level.
  • Prepares reports on Classification and Compensation findings. Handles administrative steps to formalize recommendations and provide clarity for resolutions of contract provisions historical practices similar situations etc.
  • Ensures effective accurate and timely processing of employee data related to classification and compensation actions and maintains accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Budget and Planning to review position budgets.
  • Keep abreast of compensation trends technology needs and federal and state regulations ensuring that compensation programs and HR systems meet current and anticipated University needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of human resources experience conducting job analysis position classification and compensation.
  • Experience conducting survey benchmarking market pricing and compensation surveys.
  • Well-developed analytical critical thinking project management and excellent written/verbal communications skills.
  • High proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite with superior Excel skills.

PREFERRED:

  • Masters degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Professional certification in human resources management and/or compensation.
  • Experience in a higher education and non-profit institution or public sector organization.
  • Experience in unionized and/or civil service organizations.
  • Experience using Workday systems and/or other HRIS applications.
  • Excellent collaboration time management and negotiation skills with ability to meet deadlines.

Salary Range

$77593.35-$96060.58 Annually
