Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Test Engineer are conducting analysis on materials using a variety of methodologies and may examine a material property by using various techniques including optical and destructive testing techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Destructive Tests:
    • Understand and perform a variety of destructive tests on materials components and finished products according to established testing procedures and client procedures.
    • Understand and at times utilize test equipment such as tensile frames compression frames impact testers harness testers microscopes and other specialized tools.
  • Record and Analyze Data:
    • Accurately record test data observations and results in detailed reports.
    • Troubleshoot and address any issues with testing equipment and data to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Compliance with standards:
    • Ensure that all testing activities comply with industry standards regulations and safety guidelines.
    • Ensure technicians are following industry standards and offer support when necessary.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including metallurgy chemistry environmental machine shop QC to support client needs.
  • Project Manage
    • Oversee project and work with clients to meet critical deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience:

  • B. S. in Engineering or Physical Science
  • 0-2 years experience in a material testing laboratory environment

Necessary Skills:

  • Analytical Skills
  • Math and science skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedures.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to ensure individuals with disabilities perform the essential functions.

  • Work is performed mostly in a lab setting. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift objects up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distant vision color vision peripheral vision and depth perception.
