OVERVIEW The ECS Special Education Teacher is an intervention differentiation and curriculum adaptation specialist. Working collaboratively with general education teachers education assistants paraprofessionals building specialists and the Campus Leadership Team the ECS special education teacher provides the modifications and adaptations students need in order to participate in the rigorous and engaging learning opportunities within the classroom. Special education teachers work to ensure all students (6-8) are supported through case management across or within grade levels as determined by the Campus Leadership Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Instructional Delivery
- Collaborate with colleagues and the schools instructional coaches when necessary to provide instruction to students.
- Infuse joy and rigor in lessons and so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
- Utilize strong content knowledge to effectively present material to students
- Employ multiple methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities including specialeducation students gifted education students and English language learners
Managing Student Behavior/Learning Environment - Create a positive achievement-oriented and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success
- Ensure that all students are fully and consistently engaged during class time
- Ensure all individualized behavior plans IEPs and 504s are implemented as necessary
- Implement the school-wide behavior management policies and Olweus Bullying Prevention programwithin classrooms and throughout the school
Professionalism
- Adhere to all professional guidelines as indicated in our staff handbook
- Take full responsibility for all duties and share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- PA teacher certification preferably in special education
- Familiarity with charter schools and grades (6-8) desirable
Compensation and Benefits $150/day plus participation in 403b retirement plan after completing 400 hours employment
