Summary of Job Duties:

The Program Associate in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture will contribute to a research and extension program focused on nutrient management and waste management in agricultural systems. The successful candidate will:

Manage and operate research laboratories including maintenance and oversight of
anaerobic digestion systems (e.g. biogas reactors)
Supervise and mentor graduate students and research staff
Design and conduct laboratory and field experiments related to manure treatment nutrient
cycling and environmental protection
Collect and analyze data using statistical and computational tools
Develop extension tools and educational materials for stakeholder engagement
Conduct outreach events including field days workshops and stakeholder meetings
Assist in proposal writing and project development for extramural funding
Collaborate across disciplines to support integrated research and extension goals

Continuation of this position is contingent upon availability of grant funds and satisfactory annual performance reviews.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Biological Engineering Agricultural Engineering Environmental Science Soil Science or a closely related field plus three (3) years of related experience OR a related Masters degree is required.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork lift a minimum of 50 pounds and drive a University vehicle as needed
  • Willingness to travel seasonally to off-site field stations

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field and/or postdoctoral research experience
  • Experience in extension or outreach programming particularly in nutrient or waste management
  • Hands-on experience operating anaerobic digestion systems or other bioreactors
  • Prior involvement in postharvest processing environmental engineering or nutrient recycling research
  • Experience with grant writing and research dissemination (e.g. peer-reviewed publications extension bulletins)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse research team
