Assistant Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management
JOB PURPOSE:
The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM) in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. We seek an accomplished and creative individual to conduct research teach and provide service consistent with UWs educational mission. Our Bachelor of Science degree in ORTM prepares students for careers at the intersection of outdoor recreation tourism natural resource management and community development. Our graduate programs prepare students to become collaborative leaders in a variety of environmental and natural resource fields.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor successful candidate will develop and maintain an active externally funded research program in outdoor recreation tourism or related fields; publish in high-impact outlets; and contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship within the Haub School the university and the region. The Assistant Professor will teach undergraduate courses in ORTM. They will also participate in the Haub Schools online and in-person Master of Science in Environment Natural Resources and Society programs through mentoring graduate students and leading research and scholarship activities. They will serve the School the University and the state of Wyoming and engage with stakeholders within Wyomings outdoor recreation and tourism industry. The Assistant Professor may work closely with the Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute for sponsored research projects as an affiliated faculty member.
We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary and applied teaching and research; strong communication and relationship-building skills; and the ability to contribute to the advancement of the Haub Schools mission and vision. Preferred candidates will have academic experience in the outdoor recreation field through past teaching participation in interdisciplinary programs and/or experience working with stakeholders from different backgrounds including those from rural or urban communities with fewer financial and political resources.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources advances the understanding and resolution of complex natural resource challenges through interdisciplinary education creation and dissemination of new information and understanding and collaborative decision-making.
The Haub School is a growing academic unit with over 50 faculty and staff. The school has six undergraduate and graduate degree programs that serve over 450 students. Since 1993 the Haub School has been a nexus for interdisciplinary environmental and natural resources education and inquiry. The Haub School partners with programs faculty staff and students throughout the UW campus as well as a broad network of statewide regional national and international partners to promote excellence in environmental and natural resources education research community engagement and outreach.
The schools curricula emphasize collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches that prepare students to become thoughtful future leaders and problem solvers in environmental and natural resources fields. Students learn in the classroom in the outstanding natural outdoor laboratory that is Wyoming and internationally via the Haub Schools field courses.
The Ruckelshaus Institute a division of the Haub School supports stakeholder-driven solutions to environmental and natural resources challenges throughout the state and region through compelling science communication by promoting collaborative decision making and convening stakeholders around contentious ENR issues. The Haub Schools faculty maintain active research or creative programs that address environmental and natural resources questions from both disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The Haub School is also affiliated with and an integral part of the Jay Kemmerer Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Institute at UW which interfaces with the ORTM degree through research funding and partnerships. The WORTH Institute fosters sustainable growth in Wyomings outdoor recreation tourism and hospitality sectors through extension and outreach applied research and workforce development. Through collaborations and data-driven strategies the Institute supports communities and businesses in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in these industries.
