RESPONSIBLITIES: Carpentry and Construction Skills Skilled Carpentry: Perform skilled carpentry work in building and renovating homes. Construction Techniques: Utilize knowledge of construction techniques tools and materials to ensure high- quality workmanship. Specialized Tasks: Take on specialized carpentry tasks such as framing roofing flooring and trim work. Leadership Group Leadership: Lead construction crews including both skilled and unskilled workers/volunteers. Task Assignment: Assign tasks to workers/volunteers based on their skills and experience. Training: Provide guidance and training to workers/volunteers especially those with varying levels of construction expertise. Project Coordination Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure efficient project execution. Task Coordination: Coordinate tasks and activities to meet project timelines and milestones. Quality Control Work Inspection: Conduct regular inspections to ensure that the work meets high-quality standards. Issue Resolution: Address any issues or challenges related to the work promptly. Safety Oversight Safety Protocols: Enforce safety protocols on the construction site to ensure a safe working environment. Training: Provide safety training to crew members emphasizing the importance of following safety guidelines. Material Management Inventory Control: Manage and track carpentry materials tools and equipment. Material Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of carpentry materials ensuring that supplies are available when needed. Community Engagement Volunteer Interaction: Work closely with volunteers providing guidance and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. Community Relations: Represent the organization in a positive light during construction projects engaging with the local community and neighbors. Communication Team Meetings: Attend regular team meetings to discuss project progress address challenges and provide updates. Communication with Leadership: Communicate with project managers and organizational leadership regarding construction milestones challenges and achievements. Problem Solving Issue Resolution: Address any work-related issues or challenges finding practical solutions to keep the project on track. Adaptability: Be flexible and adapt plans as needed to accommodate changes in project scope or unexpected developments. Documentation Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of carpentry activities including daily logs progress reports and any modifications made during the construction process . The Habitat Carpenter is a versatile role that requires both technical expertise in carpentry and effective leadership skills to manage and coordinate workers/volunteers. They contribute significantly to successfully completing construction projects to provide affordable housing.
