  • We would like to announce the opening for a Level 2 Paraeducator position at the Castle Rock Middle school. This position will be six and one-half (6.5) hours per day five (5) days per week for the 2025-26 school year. Previous successful experience working with special education students students with challenging behavior(s) Right Response training and knowledge and understanding of students with high needs is preferred for the position. The position may also require feeding dressing toileting and diapering. Complete job duties may be located in the position description listed below.

    Seniority rights will be exercised according to Article X Section 10.5 of the P.S.E. Negotiated Agreement.


    General Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Special Education teacher this position may be student specific to provide assistance with students. Assists the certificated teacher with instructional and non-instructional activities. Works in classroom to correct improve and reinforce skills of students with various disabilities. Assessing and recording student progress and managing resources

    Essential Functions:
    1. Facilitates alternative methods of communication for non-verbal student(s).
    2. Works independently with student(s) as directed by the teacher.
    3. Assists student(s) in carrying out self-care activities such as feeding dressing toileting and diapering.
    4. Practices ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality.
    5. Communicates with colleagues follows instructions and uses problem solving and other skills that will enable the paraeducator to work as an effective member of the instructional team.
    6. Provides positive behavioral support and management.
    7. Applies knowledge of the elements of effective instruction to assist teaching and learning as developed by the certificated/licensed staff in a variety of settings.
    8. Utilizes appropriate strategies and techniques to provide instructional support in teaching and learning as developed by the certificated/licensed staff.
    9. Motivates and assists children and youth.
    10. Follows health safety and emergency procedures of the agency where they are employed.
    11. Supervises students during assigned times of responsibility.
    12. Member of emergency response team in case of student imminent danger.
    13. Maintains a record of regular attendance arrives and departs at specified times and notifies appropriate personnel when they must be absent.
    Other Functions:
    1. Perform related duties as assigned.
    2. Although assigned to the Middle School; staff may be allocated to other buildings based on student needs
    Qualifications:
    1. 18 years of age.
    2. A high school diploma or equivalent.
    3. Meet the Washington State Minimum Employment requirements by showing evidence of one of the following:
    1. Associate Degree
    2. At least 72 quarter of 48 semester credits of 100 level courses or higher
    3. Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 461 or higher.
    1. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication in the English language including correct grammar and spelling usage.
    2. Background check through Washington State Patrol as required by RCW 43.43.830. Fees apply.
    3. Post high school training and/or significant successful training as paraeducator.
    4. Demonstrated strength and agility to defend oneself and/or students against physically aggressive behavior.
    5. Demonstrated ability to lift up to 60 lbs. according to established procedures.
    6. Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks without direct supervision.
    7. Willingness to participate in related training programs & workshops.
    8. An understanding of the value of providing instructional and other direct services to all children and youth with/without disabilities.
    9. An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of certificated/licensed staff and paraeducators.
    10. Knowledge of (a) patter of human development and milestones typically achieved at different ages and(b) risk factors that may prohibit or impede typical development.
    11. Knowledge of the legal issues related to the education of children and youth with disabilities and their families.
    12. Awareness of personal care and/or health-related support.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    1. Associate degree in education-related field.
    2. Recent successful experience in school setting.
    3. Valid first aid card.
    Terms of Employment:
    This position is for the duration of a given school year approximately nine months in length with salary starting at $21.60 per hour for approximately6.5 hours per day with
    benefits that include Healthcare benefits (medical insurance vision insurance dental insurance life insurance and disability insurance) retirement benefits 12 days of sick leave accruals and 2 days of personal leave per year. FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
    Evaluation:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the classified collective bargaining agreement.
