What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitneys Puerto Rico Cold Section Engineering (CSE) seeking a goal oriented detail-focus Structures Engineer to work on existing and next generation of commercial and military gas turbine engines. Engineer would provide analytical support for repair development and substantiation. Possible opportunities include Military and Commercial Airfoils Rotors and Static Hardware. Structures Engineer will apply scientific principles to analyze innovate design develop and implement technologies components sub-systems machines tools and systems to ensure compliance to specifications requirements and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.

• Based on business needs the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company and have availability to travel up to 10%

• English (read write speak) is required when communicating with customers co-workers or supervisors who only speak English.

• Provide Structural support to military or commercial engine components through all Product Development Phases.

• Perform state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress vibration mission low cycle fatigue life residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction and optimization; stress testing and data reduction; production and in-service field investigations.

• Leads multi-discipline integrated product teams as the structures focal providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability performance cost and weight

• Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributor. Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy

• Document and present results to management and external customers.

• Actively lead or support in quality initiatives for continuous improvement using Costumer Oriented Results and Excellence operating system (CORE) tools and support AS9100 efforts.

• Coaches and reviews the work of peers.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Bachelors degree on Mechanical Civil Structural or Aerospace Engineering

• 5 years of aerospace or turbomachinery structures experience or an Advanced degree in Mechanical Civil Structural or Aerospace Engineering with 3 years of aerospace or turbomachinery structures experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Ability to work onsite full time in a classified environment.

• Experience with software and programing languages. ANSYS Workbench ABAQUS PATRAN / NASTRAN APDL MATLAB VBA Python C Fortran MS Office NX Teamcenter and SAP.

• Active Secret Clearance.

• Compression Systems Engineering is responsible for the design development and in service support of all fans low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products. Technical disciplines in CSE include Project Engineering Mechanical Design Structural Analysis and Product Definition. Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering executes both military and commercial repair design and repairs substantiations for engines. We create and improve ASE business and repair development tools. We design develop and qualify military repair tooling.
