Were looking for a dynamic Mercer Media Relations Leader to shape and execute the external media content strategy for Mercer in the Pacific market. This encompasses media relations crisis communications client communications social media and overall reputation management for Mercers superannuation investment and workforce solutions businesses in the Pacific.
The ideal candidate for this position is a confident adviser to senior executives with a strong network of relationships across relevant media and who understands the needs of media.
The Mercer Media Relations Leader will align our media strategy with Mercers business priorities. The ability to collaborate across business functions is vital.
Working with our Head of External Affairs and Media Relations the Media Relations Leader will require a deep interest in investment and retirement savings issues as well as the hands-on experience to meet the demands of a fast-paced external communications agenda.
We will count on you to:
- Work with the Mercer leadership team to align media relations focus and activities with our business objectives and sales and growth priorities.
- Provide strategic counsel to the leadership of Mercer on reputational issues.
- Write high quality press materials i.e. press releases features advisories comment articles and op-eds.
- Proactively develop and manage Mercers relationships with reporters in tier one broadcast and trade press; respond promptly to reactive media enquiries.
- Proactively horizon scan the news agenda for issues and breaking news that Mercer could respond to and work with colleagues to quickly develop a response ensuring prominent and leading commentary on key issues.
What you need to have:
- A minimum of eight years financial services experience either in senior media relations or journalism or a related role.
- A strong existing network of business journalists with direct relevance to Mercer.
- Strong prioritisation and multitasking skills in dynamic and challenging situations.
- A commitment to rigor and ensuring our communications meet the high standards expected of a regulated entity.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team and take individual responsibility for outcomes.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across all levels of the business.
- Experience in managing reputational risk and providing strategic advice.
