QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Massachusetts State Certificationin Special Education.
  • Bachelors Degree andmasters degreefrom an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of five years successful teaching experience of which at least two years shall have been inSpecial Education.
  • Education training and experience should contain evidence of leadership qualities.
  • Certification as an Administrator or Principal/Assistant Principal or willing to enroll in an accredited certification program.

JOB GOAL:To provide leadership coordination and innovation in assigned curricular area so that each student may derive maximum benefit from the continuing pursuit of the subject involved.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and implements theSpecialEducationProgramforgrades6-12.
  • Establishes department curriculum objectives and develops a plan for the implementation and evaluation of these objectives for grades6-12.
  • Assists in the screening training and assignments of department personnel.
  • Assists department teachers in the handling of day-to-day problems of instruction and is a resource person for department teachers on curriculum and instructional consensus.
  • Responsible for the ordering inventorying and distributing of all departmental instructional materials.
  • Evaluates departmental personnel in accordance with School Committee policy.
  • Makes recommendations to thePrincipalregarding department personnel and advises thePrincipalon the departments budgetary needs.
  • Makes classroom visitation of department personnel when necessary and provides follow-up consultation.
  • Reviews teacher lesson plans.
  • Develops and maintains a department library.
  • Provides orientation and in-service training programs for department personnel.
  • Attends relevant school district and professional meetings.
  • Meets with other department heads to promote interdisciplinary programs.
  • Assists in identifying and utilizing community resources for the department program.
  • Implements an ongoing program of curriculum evaluation.
  • Provides the Principal or his/her designee with course outlines for all department offerings.
  • Is responsible for theSpecialEducationDepartmentprograms.
  • Assists the Principals in interpreting grading policies promotional policies and the districts instructional program to parents and the community.
  • Devises experimental programs designed to improve the curriculum and instructional techniques.
  • Keeps informed on educational innovations and trends as they relate to department concerns.
  • Collaborates with teachers on improving their repertoire of differentiated instructional assessment strategies.
  • Supports students in an in-district sub separate Therapeutic program.
  • Submits required reports and other information as requested by thePrincipaland/or the Deputy Superintendents in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Assumes any other duties appropriately related to thisparticular classificationas assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.

REPORTS TO: Principal and Deputy Superintendent.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluatedbythePrincipal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

DAYS: 190 Days; additional days as determined by thePrincipalinAccordance with the Lynn School Administrators Association

HOURS: Monday Friday: 7:30 am 2:45 pm

SALARY: $99640
