St. Bartholomew Church located in Manchester Maryland (Carroll County) seeks candidates for a full time Parish Secretary. The Parish Secretary is the first contact people have with the parish providing a welcoming presence for all who visit work in or call the office. The position works alongside the Office Administrator Director of Family Faith Formation Director of Evangelization and provides support to the Clergy. This is a 32 hour per week position with benefits (Monday-Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm).
Essential Functions
- Welcome all who contact or visit the Parish Office and provide appropriate assistance answer telephone calls and direct appropriately; retrieve and return or rout messages; answer routine questions to assist other staff volunteers parishioners and prospective parishioners.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail: sort and distribute mail. Make daily trips to the post office.
- Compile information from Pastor staff and others for weekly bulletin and submit weekly. Prepare any necessary bulletin inserts.
- Handle Mass cards and record Mass intentions maintain records for Mass stipend; order Mass cards as needed.
- Record weekly parish envelopes amount and complete tax statements at years end.
- Maintain office files registrations and Sacramental information for Baptism Wedding and Funerals.
- Provide administrative support to the Parish Office including Pastor and Director of Family Faith Program.
- Prepare receipts and bills according to appropriate accounting protocols.
- Manage parishioner database parish website and electronic communications.
- Maintain office calendar for use of various buildings associated with parish.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- The ability to speak read and write clear English is required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with math-related items (reports and donations etc.)
- Excellent discretion and judgment to serve all who seek assistance and to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with clergy staff and volunteers as well as effectively prioritize tasks and meet timelines.
- Computer competency in Microsoft Office Word Excel and ability to learn parish-specific database systems.
- General knowledge of the Catholic Church is preferred.
- Must model Christian attitudes and behaviors and adhere to the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
Range: $19.00 - $21.00 Hourly
