a16z speedrun is the firms program to invest in and help new startups. We run a 2x/year program that spans 12 weeks with dozens of startups working out of a16zs offices in SF and LA. So far weve invested in over 150 startups with $180M in capital deployed.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will work closely with Assistant Controllers Fund Accounting Managers and other finance staff. The primary responsibility of this role is portfolio company wire confirmation as well as the related general ledger entries and preparation of financial statements. We use enterprise software (AllVue IPREO Salesforce HazelTree) for efficiency and scale.
- Generate capital call and distribution mailings
- Perform wire verification checks prepare purchase valuation and other entries
- Assist in cash and stock distributions
- Maintain portfolio tracking reports
- Work in a coordinated manner with the team to complete quarterly and annual financial statements
- Coordinate with portfolio company counsel and internal legal team as necessary
- Assist with documentation in accordance with SEC guidelines
- Assist Controller/Assistant Controller with projects as needed
This role requires an in-office presence 2-3 days a week in our San Francisco CA or Menlo Park CA office.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent education experience with focus in accounting or finance
- 3 years of combined public accounting or relevant accounting experience
- Able to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Understanding of partnership accounting and/or asset management operations a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV accounting software a plus
- Low ego high empathy and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $119000 - $139000 actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience skills and scope.
