Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Enfield to assist with the appointment of a Deputy Chief Accountant on a 6-month contract likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 53817- 68265 per annum

Summary:

The Deputy Chief Accountant will deputise for the Chief Accountant reporting to the EMT and General Purposes Committee where appropriate. This role involves leading the production of the Councils statutory Financial Statements overseeing and collaborating with Corporate Accountants. The role requires ensuring that the LBE Council Accounts adhere to Internal Financial Reporting Standards and CIPFAs Code of Practice for Local Government Accounting.

Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Chief Accountant
  • Lead the production of the Councils statutory Financial Statements.
  • Oversee and link with Corporate Accountants.
  • Ensure LBE Council Accounts comply with Internal Financial Reporting Standards and CIPFAs Code of Practice for Local Government Accounting.
  • Act as a technical expert in Corporate Finance and provide specialist financial accounting advice.
  • Ensure key reconciliations and forecasts are updated in line with Councils Financial Regulations and quarterly accounts production timescales.
  • Direct Senior Finance in ensuring system hierarchies are up-to-date and support wider financial automation.

Qualifications:

  • A CCAB or CIMA accountancy qualification

Essentials:

  • Detailed understanding and experience of local government regulations and specialist knowledge of Accounts production and Group Accounting ideally in a local government setting.
  • Experience in providing high-level advice support and challenge on complex financial and service issues.
  • Extensive experience of working with integrated financial systems in a large organisation
  • Experience of providing financial advice and support to senior officers members and external stakeholders
