Position Summary:
Plant shutdowns are complex high-impact events that require careful planning and execution to maintain operational safety reliability and performance. At ADM where we unlock the power of nature to enrich the quality of life the Shutdown Planning Coordinator plays a key role in supporting this mission by driving excellence in the planning and execution of scheduled shutdowns and outages across our agricultural processing and manufacturing network.
This position will serve as a subject matter expert and leader in shutdown planning responsible for guiding training and supporting planners and site personnel in the effective use of our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maximo. The role ensures consistent application of industry best practices and ADM standards to deliver safe efficient and well-coordinated maintenance events.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background in maintenance and project planning experience leading cross-functional teams and a demonstrated ability to implement standardized planning processes across multiple sites. This role directly contributes to minimizing downtime and maximizing asset performancewhile upholding ADMs core commitments to safety food and feed quality and equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support site shutdown planning efforts across multiple ADM facilities
Provide hands-on training mentorship and oversight to planners and site personnel in Maximo usage and shutdown planning processes
Develop and enforce standardized procedures tools and templates for shutdown execution and reporting
Collaborate with operations maintenance engineering and reliability teams to define scope sequence and schedule of work
Review and validate work packages resource requirements and material needs in advance of scheduled events
Track progress of shutdown activities identify gaps or risks and recommend corrective actions
Drive continuous improvement through post-shutdown reviews KPIs and lessons learned sessions
Ensure all shutdown activities comply with ADM safety regulatory and food/feed quality standards
Support the integration of capital projects into planned shutdowns where applicable
Required Qualifications:
Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Industrial Technology or related field (or equivalent technical experience)
35 years of maintenance or turnaround planning experience in an industrial agricultural or food manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of CMMS systems (Maximo preferred)
Familiarity with shutdown and outage planning best practices
Proficient with scheduling and planning tools (Microsoft Project Primavera or similar)
Ability to read P&IDs equipment drawings technical specifications
Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to lead planning conversations across departments
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in grain milling oilseed processing fermentation or other ADM production operations
Knowledge of food/feed safety standards (GMPs FSMA HACCP) and how they apply to maintenance activities
Prior experience working with union and non-union labor
Understanding of ADM safety and environmental policies or OSHA standards
Previous experience implementing or optimizing CMMS usage in a multi-site organization
Professional certifications such as CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) or PMP (Project Management Professional)
