Salary: $24.03 (hourly) Non-Exempt

Full Time : Monday to Friday : 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

SHIELDSmission is to develop deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.

The Job Placement Specialist will provide workforce development case management services to the Cal CRG participants. Responsibilities include but not limited to: intake/enrollment employment assessment employment preparation training job referral/placement services and client follow-up that focus on job retention wage gains and career progress through contact with employers and other post-placement supporting agencies to a caseload of 30 or more participants

Primary Duties

  • Complete eligibility screening and enroll clients into Cal CRG program.

  • Conduct intake and assessment activities with clients including assisting with gathering other program eligibility documentation completing intake forms entering screening assessment and encounter information into a database.

  • Obtain all appropriate consents and authorizations for clients participation in Cal CRG.

  • Conduct all required Job Training and workforce development preparation and assessments for referred Cal CRG participants.

  • Update and maintain tracking systems to monitor reporting outcomes and funding requirements according to the Cal CRG contract agreement.

  • Develop educational resources and networks with local schools and community colleges.

  • Assist participants with developing basic employment skills such as resume building and interviewing techniques by facilitating job readiness workshops.

  • Administer and develop individualized employment plans according to participants specific needs.

  • Refer participants appropriate educational / vocational placements.

  • Provide unsubsidized work experience referral for participants.

  • Assist clients with locating and securing employment job/vocational training and or volunteer opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers and other workforce development partners.

  • Coordinate job fair events to assist with job placement.

  • Process and accept referrals through outreach and engagement community-based organizations Diversion and Collaborative Courts Sherriffs Department Jail In Reach Providers Probation and Parole departments.

  • Communicate effectively with partners and other service providers to assist clients with linkages to resources services and benefits acquisition and coordination of services client advocacy and other needed services.

  • Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and establish a care plan. The care plan will address the needs identified in the comprehensive psychosocial assessment and describe clients goals action steps to reach goals timeframes for completing goals and disposition of each goal as it is met or changed.

  • Provide cognitive behavior interventions through case management visits to identify helpful and unhelpful behaviors and develop skills to solve problems and adopt new behaviors to facilitate effective re-entry.

  • Maintain regular ongoing client contact and tailor the intensity of services provided including the frequency of face-to-face visits according to clients level of functioning and acuity of needs.

Qualifications

To perform effectively in this position the employee must meet the following requirements:

  • Be proficient in reading writing in English. Bilingual Spanish (a plus).
  • High School or GED required
  • Possess a working knowledge of conducting interventions for clients with a history of substance abuse incarceration mental illness or homelessness.
  • Working knowledge of client eligibility screening for entitlement program (DPSS Voc. Rehab Cal Works etc.)
  • Working knowledge of compatible service systems including but not limited to DPSS SSIetc.
  • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures HIPAA.
  • Comfortable working with a diverse population including LGBT formerly incarcerated and people with co-occurring disorders.
  • Present ideas information and viewpoints clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety or word processing software.
  • Utilize analysis experience and judgment to make decisions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and SHIELDS For Families philosophies.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • A valid California drivers license is required for this position as driving is an essential function of the role and is required for field work home visits client crises response and emergencies
  • A driving record acceptable to the Agencys insurance carrier.
  • Provides services within a culturally sensitive model of practice and is respectful to the community and clients.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required. May request medical or religious exemption if applicable.

It is preferred that the Job Placement Specialistpossess lived experience to meaningfully connect with this population. It is a desirable qualification to have been incarcerated for a continuous period of six months.
