Job Description

As part of a multidisciplinary team the Service Assistant will assist in performing a variety of routine functions related to the support of the program following infection control and departmental policies and procedures. The Service Assistant will be accountable for stocking and ensuring the readiness of patient rooms Operating Rooms Resuscitation Areas Triage etc.

Contribute to safe quality care by:

  • Assisting the WCP staff with moving chairs beds stretchers machines and other equipment.
  • Assisting with the transportation of patients within the program under direct clinical supervision.
  • Delivering and picking up equipment and supplies.
  • Delivering patient lab specimens blood tests x-rays to appropriate area.
  • Setting up isolation precautions (linen hampers cart waste container isolation linen.
  • Distributing linen to patient room.
  • Following the direction from the health care team in code situations and peak activity time.
  • Monitoring and emptying soiled linen bins.
  • Decluttering patient room upon patient discharge and ensures room readiness for patient admission.
  • Performing regular safety checks on patient room (i.e. check of bed alarms ensures room is free of trip hazards).
  • Performing regular audits as required (i.e. Hand-Hygiene Audit Checklist).
  • Assisting with room cleanliness.
  • re-stocking isolation supplies.
  • Maintaining inventory levels of Non-JIT supply carts and provides inventory list to Unit Secretary.
  • Required to rotate throughout their shift and as needed.

What must you have

  • Completion of Grade 12 education or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.

What else do you bring

  • Technical/mechanical ability and dexterity along with ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities on various equipment.
  • Good command of the English language including reading writing and oral skills.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Has understanding and working knowledge of regulations/legislation related to areas of expertise and functional responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferably your profile also includes:

  • One (1) year experience in a Healthcare critical care environment with working knowledge of medical terminology critical care supplies and equipment.
  • Previous experience within the Service Assistant classification.
