Job Description

Description

The Purchasing Specialist plays a critical role supporting and executing procurement activities including sourcing negotiating managing vendor relations maintaining records in compliance with company policies and issuing purchase orders. This position supports both routine and complex purchasing needs while ensuring compliance with quality budgetary and delivery requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in regulated environments and a strong understanding of procurement under government or contract manufacturing environments.

  • Source and procure raw materials components laboratory supplies chemicals and specialized equipment for production and R&D operations.
  • Solicit competitive bids negotiate best pricing terms and conditions and finalize agreements in conjunction with the Purchasing Manager to ensure alignment with internal requirements and budget constraints.
  • Identify qualify and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers; evaluate supplier performance on cost quality reliability and delivery.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with internal policies federal acquisition regulations (FAR) and customer-specific requirements especially for government-funded contracts.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Quality Facilities HR Legal and Contracts teams to support project timelines and resolve procurement-related issues.
  • Collaborate with planning and inventory control to maintain appropriate stock levels and lead time to avoid production delays.
  • Create and maintain purchase orders supplier documentation and procurement records in DELTEK/Costpoint.
  • Prioritize time-sensitive or mission-critical purchases balance responsiveness with adherence to compliance standards.
  • Support company initiatives for small/disadvantaged business utilization as required by contract terms.
  • Contribute to the development of procurement strategies process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience
  • Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to reduce costs while maintaining quality and delivery standards
  • ERP experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook).
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication (verbal & written)
  • Takes initiative and is resourceful
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Remains calm under pressure
  • Possess skills that demonstrate managerial ability
