Job Description:
The board-certified psychiatrist at Rhode Island State Psychiatric Hospital (RISPH) is responsible for delivering direct psychiatric care within an inpatient forensic setting ensuring adherence to established standards of psychiatric practice. This role involves active participation as a member of a multidisciplinary team and includes a broad range of responsibilities such as:
Conducting psychiatric evaluations including admission assessment and diagnosis
Providing treatment for both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions
Managing complex and high-risk forensic cases
Developing and implementing individualized disposition and treatment plans
The psychiatrist operates with a high degree of autonomy under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and collaborates closely with a team of physicians and licensed practitioners. The position grants significant latitude in clinical judgment and decision-making.
Additional responsibilities include obtaining civil court orders when necessary for treatment over objection or to facilitate patient engagement during disposition planning. As RISPH is a teaching facility interaction with psychiatric fellows and trainees is expected although formal supervision or instructional duties are not required.

Position: Onsite
Shift: 8am - 5pm Monday-Friday
Duration is approximately 3 months.
Start: No later than September 1st preferably August 15th.
Ideal candidate: Board-Certified - Adult Psychiatry Preferred. MD/DO Active License in RI. Ideally MD/DO in psychiatry with forensic fellowship training. We can also utilize Psychiatric NP instead of MD. Correctional psychiatry experience will be considered.
Experience: Graduated from Medical School/Fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at a minimum. Prefer 1-3 years. In-patient experience is highly preferred.
