Job Description
The Challenge
To efficiently spot and change Ground Engaging Tools on the surface miner within various mining sites safely and in accordance with standard operating procedures to achieve planned production targets. The employee will be assigned to the Surface Miner for a fixed period.
Qualifications :
The ideal applicant
- Grade 12 Certificate (20 points over 5 subjects including an E-symbol in English and Mathematics) or equivalent National Senior Certificate
- Vocational training qualification in any relevant Engineering discipline will be an added advantage.
- General Mining experience within the mining engineering and/or metallurgy disciplines.
- Excellent safety awareness and good attendance track record.

Additional Information :
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Inspects the Surface Miner drum after cutting each row to prevent any primary GET components from failing prematurely.
- Changes picks and bushes on the drum when they are worn out to avoid premature wear on primary GET components.
- Assists the Boilermaker during drum maintenance by providing support where required.
- Maintains a record of the Surface Miners operating consumables in the on-site storage facility and report drops below the critical level to your supervisor.
- Executes all tasks given by the Surface Miner Supervisor regarding the site move by erecting all signs on the site to comply with the site traffic management plan.
- Ensures that good housekeeping is practiced onsite.
- Inspect track bolts and report to the operator when the track bolts are not tightened to the correct specification.
- Torques all track bolts to the correct specification.
- Cleans the machine when there is a requirement to have it cleared by Security.
- Ensures that the machine is washed at the end of the shift to avoid corrosion.
- Assists the Surface Miner operations onsite by relocating submissible pumps to manage the dewatering requirements.
