What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

At the moment this role is focused on:

• Building impactful features: Youll design and develop functionality that brings cloud cost insights closer to Canvas teams including automated cost anomaly detection at scale.
• Driving product development: From idea to implementation youll lead discussions scope solutions and support product teams and Canva leaders with real-time answers to cost-related questions.
• Architecting for efficiency: Partner with engineering teams to improve their cloud architecture with cost optimisation front of mind.
• Scaling our FinOps platform: Dive into our internal FinOps data platform fine-tune performance ensure uptime and explore new ways to scale.
• Championing FinOps culture: Youll lead by example inspiring others across Canva to adopt FinOps thinking and empowering teams to make cost-informed decisions.

Youre probably a match if:

• You code in Golang or Python: Youre confident with one and keen to upskill in the other.
• You bring engineering depth: Strong foundational knowledge of computer engineering principles underpins how you solve problems.
• You know cloud inside-out: Especially AWS - youve worked with services like EKS EC2 Lambda DynamoDB RDS and S3 (or similar from another provider).
• You design with purpose: Your cloud architecture experience is scalable secure and cost-conscious.
• You automate everything: Youre fluent in infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform but we welcome experience with others).
• You own your goals: Whether working solo or with a team you take ownership track progress and deliver outcomes.
• You lift others up: You mentor guide and improve collaboration across the team.
• Youre curious and collaborative: You love diving into unfamiliar territory solving challenges creatively and connecting short-term actions to long-term goals.

About the team

Youll be joining the Cloud FinOps team who look after building and promoting a cost-aware culture that empowers engineers at Canva to seamlessly maximize the value of every dollar spent in the cloud. If you have a passion for continuous learning collaboration problem-solving and creating innovative technical solutions to address real business challenges joining our team will put you in the spotlight to help Canva achieve its two-step plan.

The Cloud FinOps team is part of The Cloud Platform group whose mission is to reduce the complexity of using the Cloud. Were responsible for building a platform that enables cloud adoption whilst minimising risk introduced to the business. Our teams work together and with other groups to deliver cloud tooling processes and best practices that uplift the posture of Canvas cloud footprint. We do this by driving operational excellence and building products that abstract the complexities of the cloud away.
