Students receive instruction in both English and of the day is devoted to English second half is devoted to Portuguese are taught in single grade receive instruction promoting their bilingual and bicultural skills.

The Opportunity:

In collaboration with the Grade 5 teaching team and the Ol Program teaching staff the fifth grade Ol Teacher will provide a creative physical environment in which children are encouraged to make choices and become increasingly responsible for their own addition the 5th grade Ol teacher will have demonstrated excellence in the following areas: bilingual/bicultural proficiency; literacy and math skills development support for all learners using inclusion techniques and philosophies use of a variety of learning approaches activity-centered projects and the development of an ongoing multicultural teacher will provide creative approaches to the development of basic skills in coordination with our Literacy and Math Coach; develop a system of instruction which encourages children to work well together; work in coordination with special education staff to support the inclusion of special needs students in the regular education classroom; and work cooperatively with other staff in the area of curriculum planning. The 5th grade Ol teacher will maintain a detailed system of record keeping that includes information on individual childrens academic social and emotional growth. In all interactions with the children the teacher will provide a safe nurturing environment with clear expectations and opportunities for children to make choices and engage in classroom activities.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Ola Grade 5 Teacher you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

• Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university required; Masters preferred.
• Fluency and Experience in Portuguese and English Required.
• Previous experience working with elementary age children especially in an urban multicultural setting.
• Respect for differences in the development of children.
• Ability to work with children in both small and large groups in an activity-based classroom setting.
• Massachusettss certification in Elementary Education 1-6 and/or Portuguese PreK-6 required.
