Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Community Ministries Coordinator provides holistic leadership to a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with The Salvation Army mission values and standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Corps Council.
Internal: DHQ/THQ Corps Officers volunteers staff.
External: Community clients governmental agencies.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Corps Officer.
Direct reports: First-line manager to a team of Community and Family Support Workers and volunteers.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Moderate material responsibilities (program equipment goods food etc.).
Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
May be authorized to handle a credit card or cash (e.g. program donations fundraisers).
Some input to annual budget or revenue projections.
Maintain the department annual budget in collaboration with the Senior Leader.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working environment is typically in the office setting in generally agreeable conditions.
Some requirements to work outside or in a variety of locations may apply to some roles.
Ability to lift up to 29 pounds.
May be required to deal with challenging behaviours and verbal abuse.
Driving to various communities and ministry units (valid drivers license required).
Willingness to work evenings and weekends to meet program needs.
Flexibility in work schedule is required based on programming schedules.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion a formal college or university program or degree of 3 academic years in a related field.
Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
Ability to provide or willingness to obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification and Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Prevention Certifications.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge:
Minimum 3 years of prior related supervisory/team lead experience including experience working with children and youth and experience in community and social services programs.
Strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
Proven ability to manage coach and motivate.
Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
Understanding for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
Skills and Capabilities:
Strong understanding of community development and a demonstrated ability to create and foster strong relationships with community partners resulting in mutually beneficial collaboration.
Knowledge of community-based resources Salvation Army programs and resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
Committed to service excellence with a base knowledge of human resource management and leadership principles as they relate to non-profit organizations; able to lead coach inspire and motivate teams to reach their full potential thus enhancing organizational effectiveness.
Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally with effective negotiation skills and a non-judgmental approach as well as the ability to work in a consultative diplomatic and tactful manner.
Strategic thinker: able to see the big picture develop effective plans/strategies and evaluate their effectiveness in order to improve operations and programs and source new opportunities.
Effective analytical problem solving and evaluation skills with an ability to investigate and initiate corrective action in order to successfully resolve problems issues and conflict.
Competency in making and implementing effective decisions with strong organizational interpersonal time management and communication skills both oral and written.
Demonstrate a high level of integrity good judgment and maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Demonstrated understanding of and compliance with all relevant federal and provincial legislation e.g. the Employment Standards Act Human Rights Act Occupational Health and Safety WHIMIS Ministry of Labour etc.
Demonstrated skills/knowledge of Funding/Grant submissions/programs.
Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $24.86 to $31.08 with a maximum of $37.29.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
