POSITION: SUPERVISOR OF SECONDARY SOCIAL STUDIES PROFESSIONAL
LEARNING AND TITLE IIA/NEW TEACHERS
SALARY: UNIT II SALARY SCALE
OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Supervisor of Secondary Social Studies Professional Learning and Title IIA/New Teachers offers administrative and instructional leadership by planning coordinating implementing and evaluating effective social studies programs; designing and implementing professional development for employees and new teachers; managing various grants (e.g. Title IIA); and co-coordinating the local National Board Certification teacher support program.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Masters Degree with appropriate certification
- Five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level
- Be eligible for or hold a Maryland State Department of Education certificate as supervisor
- Ability to integrate technology with instruction
- A working knowledge of Maryland Content Standards and current state assessments
- Ability to plan individual and group staff development activities
- Have the ability to demonstrate effective professional development expertise
- Have a record of success in leadership and program implementation
- Good command of oral and written communication skills
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff students and the community
- Have the ability to perform duties with awareness of district state and federal requirements and Board of Education policies
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have National Board Certification and/or extensive knowledge of the process
- Have successful experience as a school-based administrator
- Possess extensive knowledge of curriculum and research based strategies that lead to increased student achievement
- Be knowledgeable about the school improvement process
- Have knowledge of the Blueprint for Marylands Future particularly Pillar 2
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides leadership for a comprehensive effective and reasonably uniform program of social studies education 6-12
- Initiates and coordinates curriculum development implementation and evaluation 6-12
- Participates with the principal in the formal observation and evaluation of teachers
- Serves as a consultant to teachers principals supervisors and others regarding social studies program expectations materials and strategies
- Plans and conducts staff development programs to promote instructional and programmatic improvements and curricular change
- Disseminates information pertinent to professional growth curriculum trends student activities special awards etc. to teachers departmental chairperson and others
- Assists in recruiting selecting and placing teachers of social studies
- Serves as the liaison with local state and national organizations and groups which focus upon social studies education
- Recommends policy and/or practices and the changes to them which are needed
- Coordinates social studies activities sponsored by private and governmental agencies
- Conduct training needs analyses; develop implement and organize the delivery of professional development
- Demonstrates knowledge of the laws regulations policies and procedures applicable to training and employee development functions
- Ability to design develop conduct and/or facilitate the presentation of employee development programs
- Coordinates the development implementation and scheduling of in-service workshops orientation sessions technical skills courses and leadership conferences tailored to meet identified training needs; contracts for instructional services to supplement staff instruction
- Works cooperatively with instructional directors supervisors and the assistant superintendent of instruction to allocate human and fiscal resources appropriately
- Ability to collaborate with school administrators departments and employees to plan appropriately
- Assists in the development and monitoring of the professional development budget
- Demonstrates extensive ability to integrate technology into professional development and instruction
- Ensures follow-up support to implement best practices thoroughly and consistently
- Works with schools and School Improvement Teams to determine local needs and programs to meet those needs
- Develops and coordinates the application process for MSDE-CPD credit course offerings
- Administers and oversees all aspects of the Title IIA component of the Every Student Succeeds Act Consolidated Strategic Plan for Allegany County Public Schools
- Monitors the use and disbursement of annual budgeted funds for the Title IIA program for both public and non-public schools of Allegany County
- Administers and oversees the New Teacher Induction Program New Teacher Academy New Teacher Mentoring Program and Teacher-Mentor Specialists.
- Serve as the liaison between institutions of higher learning and ACPS for the purpose of placement of student interns
- Implement Pillar 2 initiatives under the Blueprint for Marylands Future
- Coordinate the National Board Certification Program
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
