Job Description

Thompson Engineering is searching for a qualified Bridge Inspector to join our team in Mobile Alabama. This role is critical to ensuring the safety and integrity of bridge structures across the region. The ideal candidate will have hands-on inspection experience and a strong understanding of federal and state structural standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and special inspections of bridges and related structures in accordance with FHWA and ALDOT guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports that include condition assessments and photographic documentation.
  • Identify structural deficiencies and recommend appropriate maintenance or repair actions.
  • Ensure all inspections are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and internal company protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of bridge inspection experience.
  • Certified Bridge Inspector (CBI) or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with FHWA and ALDOT bridge inspection standards.
  • Completion of the 2-week NHI Bridge Inspection course (FHWA-NHI-130055) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Comfortable working at heights in confined spaces and in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
