Job Description
George Fox Universitys Theatre program is seeking a Scenic Carpenter to support its production team during peak build periods. This hands-on role is key to bringing our stage designs to life.
About the Job:
The Scenic Carpenter will help bring productions to life by building scenery for theatre productions according to pre-determined designs under the direction of the scene shop manager. This role provides essential support during peak production periods-typically three times per year in the weeks leading up to a theatre performance-playing a key part in transforming creative concepts into dynamic stage environments.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Constructing scenery and properties for theatre production under the direction of the theatre technical director and/or scene shop manager.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others including employees students and the public in a spirit of teamwork respect and customer service.
- By actions words and lifestyle be a Christian role model to students whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect appreciation and humility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Were looking for candidates who have:
- Experience in construction of scenery for live theatre.
- Excellent carpentry and construction skills.
- Expertise in safe and proper use of a wide variety of power tools.
- Familiarity with a wide variety of scenic techniques and materials.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow verbal instructions.
- Ability to be on feet for long periods of time bend kneel climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.

- Welding and rigging experience.

- Hours Per Week: Varies. Seasonal. Up to 40 hours per week. May require overtime weekend and evening work.

- Working Conditions: Primarily working in a shop environment. Likelihood of loud noises.
