METCO Elementary Coordinator
Under the direction of the Student Relations Director the School Site Coordinator will actively support the academic socio-cultural and community-based outreach for the Melrose METCO students. The Site Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Student Relations Director and school Administrationto foster productive and cohesive relationships with faculty staff students and families. The Site Coordinator will also coordinate academically supportive and socially enriching learning experiences for the Melrose METCO students and their families.
Performance Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison between administrators parents teachers and students
- Maintains regular contact with parents counselors principals and teachers to address concerns regarding special services and academic tutoring for students when necessary.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to improve the academic performance of METCO students. (This includes addressing issues related to cultural responsiveness.
- Maintains academic records of METCO students (progress reports report cards etc.)
- Meets regularly with Student Relations Director to discuss students growth progress concerns and advocate for students and families when necessary.
- Articulates to school administrators teachers and other personnel information and insights to increase their understanding and awareness of the needs for METCO students to achieve academic and social success
- Attend and participate in assigned school building staff meetings program meetings and professional training.
- Serves as an advisor to METCO students on academic personal and social matters including the support of strong participation in extracurricular activities
- Ability/willingness to plan coordinate conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development
- Prepare and maintain all appropriate documentation and records.
- Regularly attend parent organization community and neighborhood meetings in both Boston and Melrose to develop a deep understanding of stakeholder needs and concerns build partnerships and trust.
- Actively participate in the METCO team including regular meetings led by the Student Relations Director.
- Be able to lift 30 pounds
Core Skills/Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience working with students from an urban community with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements regarding student records.
- Ability/willingness to plan coordinate conduct and participate in ongoing professional staff development.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong computer skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience servicing the educational and cultural needs of urban multi-ethnic elementary students and families.
- Understanding of Culturally Responsive Instruction and Implementation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
