The Role of the Womens First Team Technical Coach & Recruitment Lead

Brentford FC has an exciting opportunity for an innovative and progressive technical coach to assist the Womens First Team Head Coach and in a dual role lead our recruitment. They will join our expanding womens football department part-time on a 0.5 FTE fixed term contract (approximately 20 hours per week). They will assist in all areas relating to the training and preparation of the first team as delegated by the head coach. In addition in collaboration with key staff they will take a lead role in planning and delivering a data informed approach to the identification tracking and recruitment of players for our first team as we build a strategy to deliver our longer-term ambitions to progress up the womens football pyramid.

The womens first team gained promotion from Tier 6 this season and will step up to compete in Tier 5 for the 2025/26 season with matches mainly on Sunday afternoons. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for coaching and for data combining a technical pitch-based role with recruitment responsibilities. On the pitch we are looking for an individual who excels at session design and can collaborate with the head coach to plan and deliver game-related practices that maximise the tactical preparation of players fosters problem solving and decision making and where appropriate driving intensity that meets or exceeds the demands of the game. Off the pitch we are looking for someone who understands how to use data in football but also how to translate insights in a coach/player friendly way.

We have plans to grow and evolve our womens programme through thoughtful leadership and innovation; identifying where we can do things differently whilst also establishing Brentford FC Women into the fabric of English domestic womens football.

Main Accountabilities

  • Support the Head Coach with the detailed planning delivery and review of evening training sessions (Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays) for the clubs newly promoted womens first team
  • Work within the womens evolving coaching philosophy and style of play keeping detailed records of training sessions
  • Enquire probe check and challenge the Head Coach about all aspects of playing style and team selection. Act as a sounding board and encourage healthy debate
  • Support the Head Coach to lead the clubs first team competing in the London & South-East Regional Womens Premier Division Womens FA Cup Capital Cup (Senior Edition) and all additional competitive and friendly fixtures typically on Sunday afternoons
  • Assist the Head Coach in the tactical analysis of the womens first team their opponents and individual player analysis supporting effective game plans and in-match strategies to maximise team success
  • Build positive performance-focused relationships with players motivating them to achieve their full potential driving individual and team performance to win games
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a positive team culture
  • Support the Head Coach in the design and implementation of individual development plans (IDPs) for first team players and where appropriate provide feedback to players in line with agreed IDP processes and timelines
  • Work collaboratively with the first team inter-disciplinary team the Head Coach Womens Football Consultant B team Head Coach and recruitment staff to develop players and prepare the team to win
  • Build strong performance-focused relationships with all Brentford Womens staff particularly those working with the first-team players
  • Attend all first team matches and B team matches when required
  • Stand in for the Head Coach as reasonably requested from time to time
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and the Womens Football Consultant to pro-actively manage squad depth charts and identify short-medium-and long-term recruitment priorities
  • Lead on the design and implementation of talent identification and recruitment strategies that align with the clubs evolving game model and budget
  • Build and maintain live player tracking processes utilising available data management systems
  • Manage all recruitment activities including the deployment of scouts reporting processes and the acquisition of match footage
  • Produce actionable insight from the data available to inform decision-making
  • Build strong networks with coaches agents and scouts
  • Attend occasional club commercial and media functions and events as required
  • Attend all relevant continuing professional development (CPD) events contribute to the club style of play and ensure that the womens evolving game model principles and training methodologies are delivered consistently
  • Ensure that any safeguarding concerns observed or raised with you in your role are shared with the safeguarding team through the appropriate channels
  • Work with the Head Coach and Womens Football Consultant to confirm and implement mentoring and other self-development priorities
  • Any other relevant tasks as directed by the first team Head Coach Womens Football Consultant or the womens football management team

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics

  • UEFA B Licence coaching certificate
  • FA Talent ID Level 1 & 2 (or working towards)
  • Previous experience designing sessions that prepare teams to perform with multiple outcomes
  • Previous experience working within an inter-disciplinary team
  • Experience managing scouts or small recruitment teams
  • Proficiency in performance analysis tools and the ability to interpret data and video to support decisions
  • Methodical approach to performance tracking and reporting
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Previous experience working with senior players
  • FA Safeguarding Children certificate
  • Emergency First Aid in Football certificate

Person Specification Desirable Characteristics

  • UEFA A Licence
  • Previous experience using performance data to inform planning and delivery
  • Previous experience with Driblab Kitman Labs Hudl and Veo
  • Capable with PowerBi and/or Tableau
