Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual for a full-time Research Lab Technician position in Dr. Melis Anahtars laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Our lab is broadly interested in developing novel diagnostics and therapeutics to combat antibiotic-resistant infections. The candidate will play a key role in developing next-generation sequencing-based molecular diagnostics including bacterial culture nucleic acid extraction molecular assay optimization and nanopore sequencing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of sexually transmitted infections with near-term translational potential.Qualifications
Education
Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in molecular biology microbiology immunology or a related field required.

Licenses and Credentials
Experience
- Recent graduate with some relevant coursework and 0-1 years experience preferred.
- Prior experience in a wet lab environment (including coursework).
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic research environment.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Prior experience with bacterial culture and molecular biology is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work with clinical specimens.
- Enthusiasm for learning new skills.
- Commitment to laboratory safety practices and protocols
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Careful attention to detail excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Computer literacy including database tools.
- Ability to follow directions and exhibit professionalism.

As part of the daily responsibilities the Research Lab Technician will:
- Culture and maintain bacterial strains in the laboratory adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Extract nucleic acids from bacterial isolates and clinical specimens.
- Perform and optimize experiments using a variety of molecular assays including qPCR and nanopore sequencing.
- Maintain accurate lab records.
- Analyze and present data under the supervision of senior researchers.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot experimental procedures.
- Contribute a productive and collegial laboratory environment with participation in journal clubs and lab meetings.
