How to Apply: Overview
The Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculums primaryresponsibility is to support via a leadership role the schools instructionalstrategy and to ensure its successful execution. Through this means theAssistant Principal accepts responsibility for the achievement of the schoolsacademic goals. In addition assistsPrincipal in managing the day-to-day school operations.
The Assistant Principal is also the schools ancillary visible leaderand is responsible for supporting the Principal in engaging key constituents students staff parents/caregivers and community to assist in the creationof a school environment that empowers students to achieve ambitious goals thuspreparing them for the finest area high schools colleges and lifelonglearning.
The Assistant Principal assists the Principal as directed in theacademic administrative and counseling activities of the school.
Student Achievement and Success
-Meet targets for overallschool achievement and academic progress for all individual students.
-Monitor and track trendsin student performance across all academic areas including specializedinstruction and English Language Learning to ensure school performance towardmeeting Acero Schools vision and mission.
-Provide social-emotionalresources to meet students needs.
-May teach courses asneeded.
School Leadership
- Be a visible leader of the school by supporting thePrincipal in providing communication to parents/caregivers studentsstaffcommunity members and when necessary and appropriate at school events.
- Provide oversight of the standards policies andprotocols set forth in the Acero Schools Student Handbook to ensure that theyare maintained by students families and teachers and when necessary andappropriate support the Principal in overseeing this implementation.
- Provide oversight of the standards policies andprotocols set forth in the Acero Schools Employee Manual to ensure that theyare maintained by staff and when necessary and appropriate support thePrincipal in overseeing this implementation.
- Oversee the work of the Instructional Coach(es)toensure consistency with the defined characteristics of the Instructional Coachrole and teacher performance.
- Offer ancillary presence and communication with theAcero Schools support staff as necessary and appropriate.
- Drive instruction and support teacher improvementtowards meeting performance goal metrics.
- Assist in the creation of the schools instructionalstrategic plan and ensure its execution.
- Support Principals plan to sustain a culture ofexcellence among school staff to carry through key areas of Acero Schoolsculture assessment data analysis instructional planning instructionaldelivery and use of the curriculum to improve teachers skill levels.
- May assist Principal in the monitoring of local schoolbudget and facilities as directed.
Personnel Management and Development
-Drive all work inpersonnel management and development with the mindset of supporting staff withstudent success and performance in mind.
-Support the Principalwith the supervision of school personnel in all aspects of work and evaluation.
-Oversee theimplementation of the supports and interventions used in the PerformanceImprovement Plans.
-Review and compileevidence regularly from teacher performance evaluations provided by anInstructional Coach; conduct observations as well as individual and groupmeetings supporting the Principal who holds final responsibility for theevaluation of each teacher.
-Support the Principalwith the management supervision and support of school staff including butnot limited to the selection retention and dismissal (non-renewal) ofteachers.
-May develop and leadin-service professional development training.
-Education: Bachelorsdegree (required) Masters degree or higher in education or related field(strongly preferred)
-Minimumthree years teaching experience (strongly preferred)
-Minimumone year of school leadership or management experience (strongly preferred)
-Proventrack record of academic progress of students under his/her leadership
-Passionateabout urban education and demonstrated expertise in building a positive schoolculture
- Valid Illinois Professional Educators License(strongly preferred)
- Valid Illinois General Administrative or PrincipalEndorsement(preferred)
- Must hold permanent residency in the United States(required)
Physical Demands
The nature of the workrequires an ability to operate standard business office equipment and theability to communicate and exchange information collect compile and preparework documents set-up and maintain work files. Physical demands include theability to stand bend reach high and low stoop and walk around theclassroom 60% of the day. In addition candidates must be able to lift and/orpush and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods of time and walk up and downstairs several times a day.
