Primary Purpose:
Responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the Safety and Security program for the District.
Education / Certification:
- Bachelors Degree in Public or Business Public Administration Criminal Justice Sociology Education or other related field is required.
- Masters Degree in Public or Business Public Administration Criminal Justice Sociology Education or other related field is preferred.
Experience / Other Requirements
- Minimum of three years experience with public school safety and security initiatives.
- Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.
- Prior experience in school leadership position preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of emergency operations planning.
- Strong public relations organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures crime prevention investigations public safety training life safety programs and operations.
- Ability to train plan and implement theDistrict safety and security procedures and protocols.
- Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe listen motivate and provide leadership which results in the best environment.
- Ability to effectively lead organize and direct the work of others.
- Ability to make recommendations on various topics detailed controversial simple or complex.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible for the coordination monitoring implementation and evaluation of the Districts school safety and security program.
- Represents the District at various functions such as presenting at associations meeting with influential persons within the community officials citizens to establish goodwill and resolve and respond to issues.
- Coordinates security training for all levels and departments in the District.
- Develops adequate and relevant in-service training programs for security and school personnel which supports policy enforcement and accident prevention in the public-school environment and supports other relevant in-services and training programs.
- Serves as a central resource internally and externally in response to security and safety concerns or questions.
- Addresses campus parent student and community concerns and communicates as appropriate with District and campus level administrators regarding safety and related concerns and solutions.
- Makes data-based decisions about how to organize and strategically align department and District resources to maximize the safety of students staff and the school communities.
- Develops and continuously improves policies and protocols to support emergency response and a safe school climate.
- Continuously evaluates department performance relative to strategic goals and objectives and reports regularly on progress.
- Leads and evaluates all safety and security department activities and initiatives.
- Builds processes that use data to evaluate safety effectiveness and drives results that are aligned to safety and security priorities.
- Develops and administers the budget for the department.
- Ensures compliance with Local State and Federal mandates relative to school safety programs and reporting.
- Plans develops recommends implements and evaluates policies procedures and programs related to safety practices in schools and system facilities.
- Provides leadership during critical incidents by using the District adopted model of standard response.
- Proactively engages school communities in developing safety priorities defining roles and responsibilities building capability and creating systems of accountability to ensure a safe and effective school climate.
- Collaborates with internal and external personnel in planning a standardized response to critical incidents.
- Interacts with and develops collaborative relationships with local and state law enforcement and safety agencies.
- Collaborates with direct reports to identify professional goals create and execute development plans.
- Recruits and selects skilled and capable safety personnel; Collaborates with school administrators in the evaluation and effective deployment of resources.
- Conducts planning and research activities relating to all aspects of public safety in a public school system environment.
- Provides leadership for the development of educational programs for students and staff in the interest of crime and accident prevention.
- Provides professional communication with students parents community members staff and other professionals at all times.
- Works with other departments in securing grant funding which supports school safety initiatives.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
