Job Description

As Director Operations you will lead the National Credit and Future Operations Group within Wealth Management Canada. The primary purpose for this position is to supervise and provide leadership for a team supporting time sensitive complex exception-based and/or highly specialized processes. You will be responsible for supervising all operational and risk aspects of margin lending regulatory and financial reporting system configurations and oversight of all WM retail Futures clients.
The Director will provide insights and analysis to a variety of credit and risk transactions in a high-volume environment including leveraged investments derivative products wire payments and interest calculations. The role is responsible for managing three diverse operations teams for WM Canada and will require to provide leadership in both a strategic and tactical manner.
Additionally you will act as a point of contact for escalations risk management procedural changes and initiatives to ensure we provide a high level of customer service to all clients and Wealth Management business partners. The role will require working with regulators Internal Controls Operational Risk Internal/External Auditors Finance and Royal Bank partners to ensure that the team adheres to policies and procedures. Balancing risk and operational efficiency while delivering a high level of client satisfaction are the key components of this role.

What will you do

  • Supervise and direct time sensitive complex and/or highly specialized daily work flows to ensure department service levels are met including selling out client accounts and closing option positions.
  • Advocate high degree of operational processing focus and meeting all SLAs (e.g. understands the prioritization workflow and any spike in volumes) by tracking overall effectiveness of the teams.
  • Execute oversight activities for high complex exception-based and/or highly specialized department deliverables and processes to ensure controls are effectively managing work quality mitigating risk and aligned to regulatory adherence.
  • Complete and update procedures that govern the work to ensure accuracy tracking and reporting of month end errors and incident reports to operational risk completing monthly GL attestations and other regulatory obligations.
  • Manage department budget financial forecasts staffing models and department metric tracking.
  • Provide ongoing coaching training recognition development and performance management for direct reports and extended team as required.
  • Serve as project/product owner for payment projects and represent operations in cross-functional projects.
  • Build partnerships and synergies with internal & external stakeholders.

What do you need to succeed

Must-have

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university or equivalent
  • 5 years of securities banking technology and/or job specific industry experience including executing trades and closing option positions.
  • Excellent client service orientation and strong knowledge and understanding of cash movement and payment processing operations
  • Strong problem solving decision making and influencing skills
  • Broad knowledge of Canadian Operations Wealth management process and procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and provide direction to other team members
  • Demonstrated experience in leading individuals and teams
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to implement & facilitate change throughout departments as needed

Nice-to-have

  • Working knowledge of securities margin options and derivatives products.
  • Meet the requirement to be registered with CIRO as a supervisor non-trading.
  • Wealth Management business knowledge and dealing with a Full Service and Direct Investing Platform.
  • Sound organizational knowledge with operational mindset; including products processes systems and regulatory and/or client needs
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with an ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Working knowledge of Margin and Leveraged Products Rules and Regulations
  • A strong understanding of Wealth Management products and solutions
