This is a role within Chamberlain Groups Engineering team. Sr SDET plays a critical leadership role in driving quality engineering strategy across complex distributed systems. This role combines deep technical expertise in test automation with architectural thinking hands-on implementation and cross-functional influence. The individual is expected to design and maintain robust automation frameworks for web mobile and API platforms while also mentoring team members and elevating engineering quality standards across the organization. As a senior technical leader the Senior SDET collaborates with Product Engineering DevOps and QE stakeholders to define test strategies automate validation at scale and establish continuous quality pipelines in cloud-based environments. They lead root cause investigations resolve systemic quality challenges and champion engineering best practices such as shift-left testing continuous testing and AI-driven automation. This role is ideal for a strategic quality engineer who thrives in high-impact roles and is passionate about scaling quality with code.
Job Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end QA strategy across web mobile and API layers for one or more product lines.
- Architect scalable modular and extensible automation frameworks with best-in-class design patterns (e.g. Page Object Screenplay).
- Drive engineering excellence in test automation across teams; act as a subject matter expert in quality strategy.
- Mentor and upskill junior/mid-level SDETs and serve as a multiplier for engineering quality practices.
- Collaborate with Engineering Product and DevOps to establish quality gates in CI/CD and define non-functional test coverage (performance security reliability).
- Lead root cause analysis for production issues and drive preventive test automation.
- Champion quality metrics like defect escape rate test coverage and mean time to detect (MTTD).
- Investigate and implement AI/ML tools to optimize test cycle time and improve flakiness detection.
- Evangelize testing culture across teams and contribute to hiring onboarding and knowledge sharing.
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Groups reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops reading professional publications establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering Computer Science or related field
- 8 years of experience in software testing/QA with strong automation background.
- Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript or Java.
- Expertise on modern test frameworks (Playwright WebDriverIO Cypress).
- Proven experience architecting test frameworks for distributed/cloud-native systems.
- Hands-on leadership of QE teams in fast-paced Agile environments.
- Strong experience with CI/CD cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) container orchestration and observability tools.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Deep understanding of the full testing stack: unit integration contract E2E exploratory and chaos testing.
- Strong working knowledge of API contracts (Swagger/OpenAPI) Postman testing.
- Ability to lead architectural discussions and influence engineering roadmap decisions through a quality lens.
- Solid experience in performance testing scalability and reliability engineering.
- Strong communication and stakeholder influence skills including cross-geo team leadership.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Certifications: Cloud (AWS /Azure) Performance Security Testing.
- Experience with AI/ML-based quality platforms or model-based testing.
- Prior experience in regulated domains (IoT).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Contributions to open-source testing tools or internal QA tools framework design.
- Working knowledge of non-functional testing frameworks (e.g. Chaos Monkey Lighthouse).
The payrange/rate of pay for this position is $81500 - $155225; base payoffered may vary depending on a number of factors including but not limited to the position offered location education training and/or experience. In addition to base pay also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).This position is eligible for participation in a short-term incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
