Job Description

Job Summary:

This role involves registering patients for both inpatient and outpatient services at a healthcare facility. Key functions include patient registration pre-registration calculating patient liability and ensuring accurate and efficient processing of accounts. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential along with adherence to HIPAA regulations and proficiency in medical terminology and insurance processes.
Location: Los Angeles California United States
Responsibilities:
- Registering patients for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Performing pre-registration tasks for scheduled patients.
- Calculating and securing patient financial liability (copayments coinsurance deductibles).
- Verifying patient insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Providing excellent customer service to patients physicians and other staff.
- Utilizing electronic medical record systems for data entry and documentation.
- Completing required paperwork and forms accurately.
- Performing insurance verification and eligibility checks.
- Collecting payments from patients.
- Assisting with Hospital Presumptive Eligibility and Uncompensated Care applications.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English (reading writing speaking and math skills).
- Strong computer skills (Word Excel and navigating multiple screens).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong typing skills (45 wpm).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and phone skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting.
- Drivers license (for outpatient travel).

Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Medical billing experience.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or Mandarin Chinese).
- LA City Fire Card (for specific facility).
- Continuing education.

Special Considerations:
- Requires adherence to HIPAA regulations.
- May involve travel to off-site locations (outpatient only).
- Fast-paced high-pressure environment.
- Emergency situations may require immediate action and decision-making.

Scheduling:
