Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Quality Manager to join the management team for our client who are based in rural Cambridgeshire and close to Royston. We are seeking someone to act as champion for product quality and performance of both manufactured and 3rd party products This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving company and play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest quality standards throughout the product lifecycle and enhancing overall business resilience.

This is a full-time permanent position based at the company site in Fowlmere on a full-time basis.

The role

As a key manager of the management team you will champion product quality and performance ensuring adherence to specifications certification and customer requirements.

The role will drive continuous improvement of in-house manufacturing and calibration/ test processes as well as the development of supplier and 3rd Party product quality with an additional focus on safety and environmental objectives.

This role is pivotal in maintaining the highest quality standards throughout the product lifecycle and enhancing overall business resilience. This is a multifaceted role covering a few responsibilities which include these duties in the following areas:

Product & Process Quality Management

  • Lead all aspects of product quality for both manufactured and 3rd party products
  • Implement robust product quality control plans with rigorous Production end-of-line test inspection & calibration processes
  • Ensure effective levels of Product Verification Testing & QC are carried out on all in-house manufactured products with appropriate surveillance sampling rates
  • Collaborate with New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure products are designed for manufacture test and calibration
  • Lead and facilitate problem resolution through true root cause analysis and robust problem-solving methodologies

Supplier & 3rd Party Quality Control

  • Lead Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) activities to ensure suppliers and 3rd Party product suppliers can meet the required product specification and certification requirements
  • Ensure effective levels of product QC and Verification Testing are carried out on all 3rd party supplied products with agreed surveillance sampling regimes
  • Oversee all incoming quality control inspection requirements and address defects leading cross functional and structured problem-solving processes and swarms
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain R&D Manufacturing Value Stream teams to ensure supplier qualification and continuous monitoring

Manufacturing Quality & Process Control

  • Monitor and improve product quality through established quality objectives
  • Drive improvements in product and process quality with a focus pm critical process & test equipment (K Stations) ensuring that these are process capable and are within the required calibration & service intervals
  • Support the introduction of new products and processes ensuring proper documentation and controls are in place
  • Ensure the calibration system database is maintained and that all gauges and test equipment are logged and calibrated within required intervals ensuring compliance with required standards

The Person

For this important role we are seeking someone with the following skills and attributes

  • Ideally educated to HNC/HND/Degree levels in a relevant technical subject
  • ISO9001 in Quality Management Training would be highly desirable
  • Ideally Level 3 Certificate in Health & Safety in either IOSH or NEEBOSH
  • Training in 6 sigma would also be very helpful
  • In-depth knowledge of QMS in relation to technical design and manufacturing business
  • A strong understanding of Engineer/Scientific Principles such as Electronics Mechanical Physics or Chemistry
  • Proficiency in advanced process control methodologies such as 8D and A3 problem solving
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • A high degree of IT literacy
  • If you have experience in manufacturing products for hazardous locations (ATEX IECEx) it would be extremely helpful
  • Knowledge of ISO45001 and ISO14001 is also highly desirable
