Your role and responsibilities

To be responsible for work with individual children families and Early Years and Childcare Providers to:

  • raise standards of achievement for all children (with a focus on improved outcomes for the most vulnerable).
  • ensure that all vulnerable children access thefunded early education places for two three and four year olds to which they are entitled.
  • ensure that all vulnerable children can access bespoke packages of childcare that will assist in safeguarding them if they are subject to a child in need or child protection plan or they are a Child in Care including with SGO (Special Guardianship) arrangements.
  • work collaboratively with Virtual Schools social work and family support teams and safeguarding teams to ensure Children in Care attending an early years / childcare setting have a Personal Education Plan.
  • process requests for support for initial child protection conferences for children under five.
  • oversee and manage the information systems (databases and spreadsheet which will include personal financial confidential and sensitive data).
  • provide briefings to a range of colleagues who work with families to help them access information about a full range of services.

You will need

  • An understanding of government funded childcare entitlements and safeguarding children.
  • Ability to work with a range of colleagues in social care family support inclusion and with a range of childcare providers and childminders.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to promote childcare entitlements and manage business support processes associated with the role.
  • Experience or knowledge of providing packages of support to vulnerable children and their families and / or carers.
  • Experience handling and managing data sets including knowledge of financial procedures invoicing and budget monitoring.

The Early Years and Childcare (EYC) Services role in supporting quality in early years provision is crucial. Improving the quality of early years provision helps improve long term outcomes for children. High quality is central to an early years system that has the confidence of parents delivers both positive experiences and good outcomes for children and helps to diminish the difference between the most disadvantaged children and the rest.

The Government is committed to providing 30 hours of funded childcare to working families wraparound childcare and government funded childcare packages. We have a responsibility to make sure children are spending their time in high quality care that supports child development and learning.

The role of the service is critical in supporting early years providers to deliver flexible and high-quality care to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
