Job Description

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Monitor and manage the health and performance of installed machinery and equipment including the Machine Shop satellite service shops Blast building(s) and integrated Mechanical systems throughout the Main Yard and Off-site Facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance to Front Line Supervisors Trade Planners Project Managers Facilities Mechanics and Production Department Machine Operators.
  • Work with various functional areas in evaluating existing processes and identifying process improvement opportunities to drive business results (i.e. cost reductions operational efficiencies adequate controls).
  • Maintain task list with updated status of activities.
  • Ensure all work performed is done in compliance with local state and federal regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership:

  • Follow and re-enforce safety policies and procedures with a focus on housekeeping and personal safety.
  • Participate initiatives to enhance workplace safety and foster a culture on continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Jobs on task have been properly vetted with the appropriate level Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) highlighting the work hazards identified.
  • Follow and Enforce BIWs PPE requirements.

Task Execution:

  • Prioritize work to ensure your Plan of the Week (POW) is aligned with critical path activities to ensure we are working on the right job at the right time.
  • Track the status of crew workload(s) involving Critical Equipment assets to monitor and reduce Out-Of-Service (OOS) time to minimize impacts to Cost Schedule Budget etc.
  • Track the status of assigned Preventative Maintenance (PM) workloads and work orders completion status to enable intervention for planned downtime (and reduce unplanned outages).
  • Responsible for maintaining and auditing all cost data for accuracy and data integrity for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • As needed coordinate with Production Department leaders to facilitate job scheduling and track jobs to completion.
  • Work with assigned Trade Planners to develop the POW and ensure job(s) are scheduled to resource capacity.
  • Actively participate in critical equipment root-cause analysis.

Program Controls Management:

  • Manage the overall execution of the Plan of the Week.
  • Participate in efforts to improve Program Controls departmental efficiency and optimization.
  • Ensure accountability of task and goal completion.
  • Support Facilities Department metric(s) and established goals.

Training and Development:

  • Research training programs to ensure trade mechanics are trained for the tasks assigned and participate in trainings as appropriate.
  • Ensure Procedures and Process Controls are well-documented so they can be clearly communicated to the personnel charged with executing the task.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work cross-departmentally with multiple functions/organizations in effort to achieve Production and department.
  • Collaborate with Project and Functional Managers to mitigate project/job execution delays.
  • Partner with Facilities Management and Planning group to identify efficiency cost savings and reliability opportunities to minimize equipment downtime and mitigate interruptions to Production.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in Business Operating System (BOS) principles and Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP).
  • Focus on critical equipment reliability opportunities.
  • Focus on the quality of trades workmanship to ensure quality standards.
  • Incorporate the Plan-Do-Check-Act model to ensure sustainment of the improvements established.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with applied experience in machine shop repair and Reliability Centered Maintenance.
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Profession (CMRP).

Required/Preferred Experience

Senior Engineer:

  • 5 years experience in Mechanical Marine or applicable engineering/technical position required.

Principal Engineer:

  • 10 years experience in Mechanical Marine or applicable engineering/technical position required.

Required:

  • Must have the skill to read and understand schematics drawings and technical manuals.
  • Must have the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure of changing and often conflicting priorities.
  • Basic proficiency with personal computers (Computerized Maintenance Management System a plus) (MAXIMO CMMS experience a plus).
  • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues and repairing of production machinery.
  • Ability to execute and progress multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to organize plan and execute complex projects.
  • Self motivation and strong ability to contribute in a team environment.
  • Overall knowledge of processes and procedures.
  • Must be competent in Microsoft PowerPoint Word Excel Project Access etc.
  • Demonstrated experience working with all levels of a company.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred:

  • 10-years Shipyard or Facilities experience.
  • 5-years work experience troubleshooting machinery equipment in industrial/commercial setting.

  • 5-years of planning and project management experience.
