Position Summary:
The position is located within the Integrated Marketing team part of the Advancement Center of the Lab of Ornithology.
The Content Marketing Production Specialist works to advance the marketing and communications strategy of the Cornell Lab amplifying the Labs mission to understand and protect birds and the natural world and to engaging the public as broadly as possible in these efforts. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is the worlds leading institute for research education citizen science and conservation focused on birds. The Lab is a vibrant unit actively contributing to the mission of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) which is a premier institution of scientific learning tackling the complex challenges of our time through purpose-driven science.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Lead Marketing Manager the Content Marketing Production Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Labs digital marketing and communications operation through their work to develop implement and refine high standards workflows strong measurement and great effectiveness of the Labs digital marketing operations.
The Content Marketing Production Specialist will work within the Integrated Marketing team and is responsible for supporting lead generation efforts as well as nurturing new and existing leads so that other teams such as membership fundraising participatory-science teams Bird Academy Merlin Bird ID eBird and Birds of the World can successfully convert them into customers donors members and participatory-science data contributors.
The Content Marketing Production Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the creation and execution of all types of marketing content. Within their role they will write text and create graphics and other assets for external marketing content. They will set up campaign metrics in HubSpot/Salesforce and other relevant systems as appropriate manage contact lists contact properties suppression lists automated workflows and organize content. They will also monitor and manage email health statistics and the Lab-wide email calendar. They will also create graphics and manage web CTAs write and build landing pages and forms and assist with audience segmentation. In addition they will also facilitate the creation and execution of social media contentwritten and graphicalacross the Labs central social platforms as well as measuring and refining the effectiveness of this work.
More specifically the Content Marketing Production Specialist will help achieve the Labs marketing and communications goals through the following means:
Generate new leads nurture existing leads and convert these leads into customers donors members and citizen science data contributors.
Create and manage digital ad campaigns promoting and supporting webinars and other live events and creating organizing and supporting ad assets.
Help develop and maintain customer lead pipeline and support lead nurturing efforts
Help manage CRM (customer relations management database) data and functions
Participate in content development and SEO optimization to rank and increase views.
Coordinate with content production teams around the Cornell Lab to create new or repurpose existing content that meets organic search interests and attracts and nurtures leads within the Labs target audiences
Design and implement campaign level assets including but not limited to graphics text automated workflows contact lists tracking mechanisms and templates
Conceptualize and create marketing content and user experience for campaigns. Marketing components may include email and landing page layout content graphical user interface interactivity and flow
Evaluate professional development needs and identify opportunities that fulfill those needs
Work with the strategic communications team and the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications on major communications/brand-focused campaigns
Work with the Advancement Tech Team Science Communications team data analytics team audience research team and other functional teams to successfully execute campaigns and projects aimed at lead nurturing and qualification
Work across center teams at the Lab to coordinate the usage of various communication channels to achieve optimal impact; the teams are but not limited to membership Bird Academy eBird Birds of the World Merlin etc.
Help ensure the integration of the Labs brand into all forms of marketing and communications
Demonstrate a strong customer-centric and a solution-oriented mindset with members of the Cornell Lab community on marketing and communication related activities
Other support and assistance as needed
About Cornell University Communicators
Cornell communicators share a mission to enhance and preserve the universitys brand and reputation as a top research institution and a leader in higher education and to support and promote critical programs that serve the universitys teaching research and public engagement mission.
Communication services are carried out through a matrixed organizational system in which University Relations houses the departments of News (Cornell Chronicle) Media Relations (pitching and servicing media requests) Brand ( multimedia production brand management and governance) Strategic Communications (communications plans key messaging social media management) and Cornellians (digital alumni publication).
Communicators in colleges schools and units regularly collaborate with and consult University Relations departments. University Relations serves as a partner and resource for all college/unit communicators.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca NY at the Lab of Ornithology approximately 3 miles from Cornells main Ithaca campus. This position follows allows for the possibility of remote work while the preference is for the preferred candidate to be located in the Ithaca New York area and maintain a hybrid schedule.

What You Need (Qualifications):
We are seeking a team member who is passionate organized and a proficient communicator.
Bachelors Degree required and 2-4 years of experience in digital marketing and communications and project management or equivalent combination.
Experience developing multichannel marketing and communications campaigns while working with multiple stakeholders and production teams
Working knowledge of HTML CSS content management systems (e.g. Wordpress) and digital marketing and CRM platforms
Working knowledge of email systems such as Hubspot MailChimp Salesforce Marketing Cloud Constant Contact
Detailed documentation skills with the ability to multitask and balance competing priorities under deadline
Understanding of search engine optimization and how coding content and page linking work together to increase keyword relevance and drive placement in search engines.
Enthusiasm for exploring and learning about emerging technologies and platforms
Results-oriented with a premium on accurate timely execution and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and envision the repercussions of technical choices and project future needs against an established budget.
Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively with a solution-oriented approach
Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail including copywriting and editing.

Subject matter expertise with preference for an ornithological or broader scientific communications background

Comfort developing and communicating integrated marketing and communication plans to senior leadership to inform strategic decisions and/or areas for future enhancement or investment
Experience working with nonprofit organizations and knowledge of nonprofit ornithological and nature enthusiast audiences is a plus
