Job Summary
Responsible for the preparation analysis and evaluation of cytologic smears for the presence of absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns presence of micro-organisms inflammatory reactions endocrinopathies benign changes pre-malignant changes neoplasia and cellular responses to therapeutic agents. May perform HPV testing Immunocytochemistry and other molecular techniques as required.Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Screening: Screens gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytologic material reviewing atypical or abnormal specimens with pathologists.
Processing and Evaluation: Performs specimen processing of cytologic material according to Standard Operating Procedures as necessary.
Quality Assurance: Adheres to departmental QA/QC standards including submitting a random 10% of negative gynecologic cases for peer review.
Collaboration: Maintains an effective working relationship with pathologists to ensure accurate results.
Compliance and Proficiency: Participates in proficiency surveys and successfully completes federally mandated annual proficiency testing (PT).
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in medical technology or a science from an accredited school.
Must be CLIA eligible for High Complexity Testing.
Certification in Cytology CT (ASCP or IAC).
Minimum of 3 years cytology experience preferred.
