Under supervision of the Nurse Manager the Unit Coordinator assists in planning organizing implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing unit. This includes performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.I. Major Responsibilities:
Clerical and Operational Support
1. Prioritizes clerical needs at the beginning of each shift and maintains awareness of bed availability.
2. Performs transcription and computer entry accurately.
3. Orders and maintains supplies and equipment at established levels.
Patient and Equipment Transport
1. Collects and transports specimens according to MRMC standards.
2. Transports patients using all safety measures.
Communication and Reception
1. Answers telephone and intercom identifying self and unit.
2. Receives and forwards messages to appropriate personnel.
Organizational Duties
1. Compiles new charts maintains current charts retrieves old charts and updates patient information on charts and Kardex.
Professional Development
1. Assists in orienting new staff to clerical duties.
2. Maintains all required competencies for the role.
Age-Specific Competency
1. Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care.
2. Demonstrates age-appropriate communication and support.
Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Complies with established departmental policies procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings conferences seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education
Required:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
1. Typing and Medical Terminology Course or Medical Background
Experience/Skills
Preferred:
1. Computer skills
Unless certification licensure or registration is required an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
This position requires frequent sitting standing reaching and performing repetitive movements. It also requires precise motor skills hearing and vision. Lifting carrying pulling and pushing weights up to 50 lbs may be required occasionally.
