Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order.

The New York Police Department seeks a Copywriter / Editor to create persuasive written content for various platforms including the agencys website social media and printed materials with the goal of sharing important information and enhancing the agencys brand visibility. Under the direction of the executive staff in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information the Copy Writer will collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective messaging.

Key Responsibilities:

- Writing clear concise and compelling copy for diverse media including websites social media posts email campaigns brochures and advertisements.
- Developing and maintaining a consistent brand voice across all content ensuring it aligns with the overall brand strategy.
- Conducting research to understand target audiences and the specific information being promoted.
- Working closely with staff to brainstorm ideas and develop effective messaging strategies.
- Ensuring all copies are accurate well-written and free of errors.
- Creating content that is optimized for search engines to improve online visibility.
- Adjusting tone and style to suit different platforms and target audiences.
- Managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
