We are seeking an experienced Design Manager for an embedded role with one of our key clients playing a critical role in the successful delivery of a major capital infrastructure programme.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager the Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing all design development activities across the project lifecycle. You will be accountable for ensuring that engineering design work packages are delivered to the agreed scope quality schedule and cost while providing strategic direction and day-to-day leadership to the engineering design teams.
TASKS
Key Responsibilities
Lead multi-discipline engineering teams
Deliver & manage technical design packages
Review design substantiation & safety case docs
Oversee design changes EIMT schedules & concessions
Provide expert advice to internal/external stakeholders
Lead working groups meetings & contractor reviews
Justify & review civil/structural design changes
Check reports calcs and technical deliverables
Support ITA/IPR processes & technical assurance
Drive improvements in engineering processes
Qualifications :
Essential
STEM Degree Accredited degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
1215 Years Experience Proven background managing complex design development across full lifecycle
Design & Safety Strong knowledge of engineering design and safety practices
BIM Proficiency Experienced in working within Building Information Modelling (BIM) environments
Project Delivery Skilled in specification planning budgeting and technical project management
H&S & Quality Good understanding of CDM regulations Principal Designer duties and quality systems
Digital Tools Working knowledge of standard engineering software and office applications
Defence/Nuclear Experience Design support for submarine construction operation or refit highly valued
Desirable
CS&A / EC&I Disciplines Preferred though experienced Mechanical Engineers also considered
Chartered Engineer CEng status or working toward with a relevant professional institution
High-Risk Environment Experience Especially HMNB Clyde or similar nuclear/defence sites
Safety Case Skills Familiarity with HAZID HAZOP and other hazard identification techniques
Nuclear Sector Knowledge Experience with UK/US nuclear codes standards and safety regulations

Location: Glasgow City Centre - Client offices
Working Model: Hybrid - 3 days/week in Client office
Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate will require Security clearance to start. To gain this you will be required to be a Sole UK national
