The International School of Texas (IST) is seeking a passionate creative and dynamic educator to teach Spanish Language Acquisition courses across our Middle and Upper School programs (Grades 610). This part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) is ideal for a teacher dedicated to developing students Spanish language skills through an interdisciplinary inquiry-based approach aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
This role offers the possibility of becoming a full-time position in future years for the right candidate. The position is also ideal for a retired middle or high school Spanish teacher seeking meaningful part-time engagement.
The ideal candidate will inspire students to excel in listening speaking reading writing and intercultural understanding while nurturing their growth as creative thinkers and global citizens.
- Develop and teach engaging Spanish Language Acquisition courses adhering to the principles of the IB Middle Years Program (MYP).
- Contribute to curriculum development that supports the MYP framework and is aligned with potential future Diploma Program (DP) pathways.
- Design curricula that promote language acquisition intercultural competence and student-driven inquiry.
- Encourage creativity and collaboration through individual and group projects that align with IBs inquiry-based learning approach.
- Prepare students to achieve success in MYP assessments while fostering a lifelong love of language learning.
- Foster students intellectual social and emotional growth through mentorship and guidance.
- Provide constructive feedback on student progress applying IB assessment criteria where applicable.
- Support the holistic development of students by promoting critical thinking communication and collaboration.
- Work with fellow faculty members to integrate language acquisition across various disciplines enhancing students learning experiences.
- Build relationships with students parents and the broader school community to promote ISTs mission of global citizenship and lifelong learning.
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs and cultural events to enrich students educational experiences beyond the classroom.
- Degree in Spanish Education Language Acquisition or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of teaching experience in middle or Upper school education.
- At least two years of experience teaching within the IB MYP framework.
- Experience with authentic inquiry-based or project-based learning methodologies.
- Strong understanding of IB teaching principles including inquiry-based learning interdisciplinary teaching conceptual understanding and formative assessment.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and engage students with diverse backgrounds through differentiation and inclusion.
- Spanish: Native/Bilingual Proficiency
- English: Full Professional Proficiency
- Enthusiastic adaptable and committed to fostering creativity collaboration and critical thinking.
- Passionate about promoting global citizenship and intercultural understanding.
- Dedicated to inclusive student-centered teaching practices.
- Masters Degree and experience teaching Spanish in an IB MYP school.
- Experience with language immersion or intercultural programs highly desirable.
