Mechanical Inspector Metrology

Department: Quality / Metrology Global Process Technology
Reports To: Quality Auditor -Metrology Supervisor
Location: Victaulic Global HQ in Easton PA
**RELOCATION ASSISTANCE IS OFFERED FOR THIS ROLE**

Job Summary:
The Mechanical Inspector Metrology is responsible for the dimensional inspection of a wide range of components using mechanical optical and digital measurement tools. The role involves hands-on inspection data analysis and collaboration with engineers to support R&D production and quality assurance objectives. The inspector must possess working knowledge of ASME/ISO standards GD&T and metrology software applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspect cast machined molded stamped and forged components made of various materials including metal plastic rubber and polymer.
  • Use precision mechanical measuring tools such as calipers micrometers height stands and surface plates to verify dimensional conformance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings compliant with ASME and ISO standards.
  • Apply basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles in daily inspections.
  • Compile inspection data into Excel spreadsheets and other computerized formats for reporting and documentation.
  • Operate and utilize 2D and 3D vision systems to collect and evaluate dimensional data.
  • Use software such as PolyWorks or equivalent point-cloud-based dimensional analysis tools to extract evaluations of size and distance.
  • Operate CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) using PC-DMIS software following setup instructions and running programs based on part numbers. Basic programming skills preferred.
  • Participate in the maintenance and calibration of Measurement Tools & Equipment (MT&E) in the metrology lab updating associated records.
  • Utilize solid models and 2D CAD formats (.dxf) on CMMs and vision systems to support evaluations.
  • Follow job tracking software to prioritize inspection workload and understand order status.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering teams regarding inspection results on both new and existing components.
  • Disassemble and reassemble parts or subassemblies for inspection as required.
  • Use overhead cranes lifting devices and pallet jacks for safe material handling.
  • Maintain proper organization of work-in-process (WIP) and scrap materials in designated storage areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to complete shared inspection projects and meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree in metrology mechanical inspection or a related field preferred.
  • 25 years of mechanical inspection or related metrology experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with PC-DMIS PolyWorks or similar dimensional analysis software.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and vision systems for dimensional inspection.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T fundamentals.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Excel and other inspection reporting tools.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to stand for extended periods and operate manual and automated inspection tools.
Use of overhead cranes pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment required.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a clean temperature-controlled metrology lab and on the production floor.
Requires use of appropriate PPE and adherence to all safety procedures.
