Full timePosition Summary and Qualifications:
Under the direction of the Head Coach the Assistant Coach/Instructor will be responsible for designing skill development programs for student-athletes and assisting in the oversight of all aspects of the NCAA Division I Baseball program. This position will build and maintain positive working relationships with student-athletesEssential Duties & Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
Teach coach mentor and inspire student athletes up through graduation.
Attend all competitions and practices unless directed to other tasks by the head coach and is responsible for teaching student-athletes proper skills and skill development in their sport.
Utilize Trackman and other data/analytics to assist student-athletes in their athletic development.
Provide instruction in physical health nutrition and safety.
Provide instruction in team concepts and sports etiquette. Treat student-athletes colleagues and opponents with respect and represent Saint Josephs with integrity.
Develop successful recruitment strategies; follow up on prospective students research and target high schools and athletic camps/showcases/tournaments as sources for potential student-athletes.
Plan develop and teach well-organized sessions and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with departmental goals and objectives. Maintain competency and knowledge in the academic curriculum and what the student-athletes are responsible for throughout the semester and hold student-athletes accountable for meeting criteria.
Be familiar with college assessment and placement procedures and effectively utilize campus resources.
Develop and oversee off-season skill-development programs for assigned positions by the Head Coach. Determine individual and team strengths and develop strategies to maximize performance.
In a joint effort develop and oversee scouting reports with the other assistant coaches.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:
The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum of a combination of 3 years of college or professional coaching experience or at least 2 years of professional playing experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA and member conference rules and regulations.
Administrative skills such as prioritization organization and budgeting are needed.
Must be self-directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work under pressure.
A valid drivers license and ability to meet standards of the Colleges current Motor Vehicle Policy are required
Current CPR AED and First Aid certification must be maintained.
The successful candidate will be subject to pre-placement physical exam motor vehicle record check and criminal background check.
Successful background check clearances to include a PA Criminal Records Check FBI Fingerprinting Check and PA Child Abuse Clearance Check.
Preferred:
Bachelors Degree
5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level with at least 3 years coaching pitchers.
Previous experience recruiting student-athletes at the college level.
Ability to throw a high quality batting practice hit quality fungos to position players and other baseball-specific skills related to running drills in practice.
Experience using Rapsodo Trackman or additional analytic metric systems
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Requires frequent evening and weekend hours.
Requires frequent travel.
