Job Description

MAJOR FUNCTION

The Conservation Impact Director is responsible for designing and evaluating an impactful conservation portfolio of WWF Mexico working closely and guiding thematic programs. Under the guidance and close collaboration with the WWF-Mexico Country Director they represent the program in global initiatives within the WWF network. This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with government entities local communities NGOs and other relevant institutions involved in WWFs work in Mexico.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the Mexico Program is anchored in a coherent conservation strategy aligned with WWFs overall strategic plan reflecting global priorities and tailored to the Mexican context.
  • Monitor progress toward the achievement of conservation objectives and global WWF priorities through the Planning Monitoring Evaluation & Learning functions.
  • Provide technical guidance and critically evaluate annual work plans of regional and thematic programs to ensure alignment and effectiveness.
  • Represent the interests of thematic programs and priority landscapes at the national level engaging proactively with government agencies partners and key stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in WWF network initiatives by identifying funding opportunities fostering synergies and sharing resources and capacities with the Mexico Program.
  • Collaborate with the Country Director to identify develop and secure funding opportunities for the Mexico Program eco-regional and thematic initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the Operations and Development team to ensure compliance with institutional policies and implement necessary adjustments to promote organizational efficiency  compliance with the annual implementation objectives and the strategic plan and the fundraising goals in coordination with the mobilization resources and strategic alliances team.
  • Cultivate professional relationships with government agencies NGOs research institutions universities and individuals both within and outside Mexico identifying collaboration opportunities aligned with WWFs mission.
  • Communicate effectively and foster strong working relationships with colleagues donors scientists government officials NGOs local communities and other partners at national and international levels. Prepare and deliver official communications aligned with organizational positions technical analyses and sensitive documents. Maintain seamless communication with relevant WWF offices.
  • Lead mentor and supervise the team under their responsibilityevaluating performance and developing an annual work plan to foster growth and accountability.
  • Collaborate closely with the People & Culture team to align strategies policies and processes  related to talent management organizational climate professional development and employee well-being.
  • Actively participate in the definition implementation and oversight of safety guidelines and plans ensuring their proper execution in coordination with the relevant areas and promoting an organizational culture focused on prevention and care.
  • Oversee the preparation and publication of WWF Mexicos annual report in close coordination with the Operations and Development for Conservation and Communications Directors.
  • Hold a seat on the Senior Management Team contributing as a key decision-maker within WWF Mexicos leadership structure.
  • Lead a strong and active Conservation Committee in WWF Mexico.
  • Actively participate in regional and global forums including the Conservation Cabinet in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the global conservation forum representing WWF Mexico.
  • Coordinate the communications strategy and asset development in collaboration with the Communications team serve as a media spokesperson through interviews and author op-eds on a range of relevant topics.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Country Director actively contributing to the achievement of WWFs conservation goals in Mexico.

Qualifications :

EDUCATION: Masters degree or experience equivalent in environmental or social sciences international relations or related areas.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 10 years in nature conservation climate change and/or sustainable development roles with proven expertise in managing large teams overseeing complex projects and coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives. Strong background in monitoring ecological and social impact evaluating progress and adapting strategies accordingly.

LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire large diverse teams fostering collaboration innovation and high performance. Skilled in strategic planning organizational development and capacity building.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES & REPRESENTATION: Proven track record in building and maintaining strategic partnerships with government agencies NGOs research institutions and private sector actors. Ability to serve as a credible and influential representative of WWF Mexico on national and international platforms.

THOUGHT LEADERSHIP: Recognized as a thought leader in conservation capable of shaping policy debates influencing stakeholder agendas and providing innovative solutions to conservation challenges. Ability to position WWF Mexico as a respected authority and strategic partner within the conservation community.

IMPACT MONITORING & EVALUATION: Expertise in designing and implementing impact monitoring frameworks analyzing conservation outcomes and integrating findings into strategic decision-making processes.

COMMUNICATION & NETWORKING: Excellent diplomatic negotiation and communication skills to effectively engage diverse audiences including high-level government officials scientific communities donors and media.

TEAMWORK & WORKING UNDER PRESSURE: Excellent ability to work collaboratively within teams maintaining professionalism and effectiveness under tight deadlines and stressful situations.

PROJECT EXECUTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Proven ability to design plan and execute projects efficiently demonstrating a high level of responsibility and accountability in delivering results. Demonstrates a proactive approach with unwavering integrity and accountability for organizational and conservation goals.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Strong competency in project planning budgeting and reporting along with proficiency in various computer software packages.

LANGUAGES: Fluent in both English and Spanish both spoken and written.
