JOB SUMMARY:
This is a professional position responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous Theatre instruction including Acting Introduction to Theatre and Musical Theatre in alignment with the instructional goals of Kent Island High School and Queen Annes County Public Schools. The teacher will foster creativity collaboration and performance skills while ensuring that all students are provided opportunities to achieve at high levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a valid Maryland Educator Certificate in Theatre 712.
Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional and curricular methodologies in Theatre Education including Acting Intro to Theatre and Musical Theatre.
Possess the ability to relate well with students colleagues parents and staff fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Experience directing or assisting with school productions musicals and acting showcases is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Meets and instructs assigned classes including Acting Introduction to Theatre and Musical Theatre in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students incorporating performance-based assessments and theatre standards.
3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning exploration and performance and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
4. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
5. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior rehearsal etiquette and performance readiness.
6. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons units and projects communicating these objectives to students.
7. Employs a variety of instructional techniques including script analysis improvisation stage movement and vocal work using instructional media and resources appropriate to the students needs.
8. Strives to implement the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through classroom and performance-based instruction.
9. Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly through formative and summative assessments providing feedback and progress reports as required.
10. Identifies students learning needs and seeks assistance from district specialists when necessary.
11. Takes all necessary precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities during rehearsals performances and daily instruction.
12. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules for classroom and rehearsal spaces maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
14. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
15. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers particularly during productions and performances.
16. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development and active engagement in the theatre education community.
17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
18. Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance in all school-related activities.
19. Upholds the highest professional ethics and practices in instruction directing and collaboration.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
PAY AND HOURS:
Placement on the Queen Annes County Teachers Salary Schedule commensurate with certification experience and preparation. This is a Full-time benefited 10-month position.
