Lead Health Safety & Environmental Advisor Building

Guildford

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Health Safety & Environmental Advisorto join the team at Galliford Try within our Build Business.

Ideally you will based in or around the Guildford area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.

You will support the business unit in actively implementing the HS&E strategy and systems to ensure that the delivery of our operations meets exemplary health safety and environmental standards. This role supports improvement and consistency in performance ensuring compliance with management systems and implementing continual improvement initiatives.

Working proactively to improve HS&E standards in their assigned business unit and supply chain partners by effectively embedding our behavioural change programme Challenging Beliefs Affecting Behaviour.

  • Reports directly to the Regional HS&E Manager and supports this person on all health safety and environmental aspects.
  • Leads their assigned Business Unit on a day-to-day basis regarding all things health safety and environment.
  • Support the implementation of our HS&E strategy ensuring this is also embedded within the HS&E Advisors actions to drive continual improvement through their assigned Business Unit addressing short- medium- and long-term growth and learning.
  • Lead any directly reporting HS&E Advisors ensuring that they are actively engaged and are contributing to the successful delivery of projects by providing professional advice and direction.
  • Work proactively with the business unit key supply chain partners to raise standards and ensure compliance with our HS&E business management system.
  • Actively support their assigned business unit and key supply chain partners to ensure the promotion and embedment of our behavioural change programme; Challenging Beliefs Affecting Behaviour.
  • Ensure our business management system in relation to HS&E has been correctly implemented taking account of client requirements to align with our overall strategy and drive performance through our processes and standards.
  • Support the HS&E Advisors to provide technical and specialist guidance to line and site management in the implementation of HS&E programmes and initiatives.
  • Supports directly or ensures that sufficient HS&E support is made available to operational staff for the review of project documentation such as Construction Phase Plans Emergency Response Plans high-risk method statements and risk assessments etc.
  • Supporting the business units bid and pre-construction teams to assess and manage HS&E risks to maximise the opportunity to eliminate or if not feasible reduce the risk of harm during the whole life cycle of projects.
  • Ensures that a programme of HS&E monitoring auditing and review by the HS&E Advisors is conducted regularly at our workplaces. The programme shall include specific trends where necessary. Ensures that the quality of those inspections is maintained to a high standard.
  • Conducts site safety and environmental reviews to ensure compliance with our management necessary outputs are recorded within our systems and advises management as appropriate to ensure timely actions are taken.
  • Assists in the onboarding and management review of our supply chain partners as applicable to the project or business scope where necessary.
  • Supports our learning and development programme by preparing and delivering training and awareness sessions instructions best practice guidance codes of practice environmental information to our operational and leadership teams our clients and at industry events as required.
  • Support the HS&E Advisors or lead incident investigations to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent recurrence. Monitor and manage incident reports within the designated timescale and manage close out within the approved system. Review the quality of incident reports and where necessary provide support to improve.

About You:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Able to demonstrate alignment with the Galliford Try values - Excellence Passion Integrity and Collaboration.
  • Proven ability to effectively challenge persuade and influence senior colleagues.
  • The ability to develop and manage relationships.
  • Good leadership and delegation skills.
  • Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrable experience of championing and implementing a positive culture across a business.

Essential

  • A broad knowledge of the construction industry and the practical delivery of site operations.
  • Relevant experience in a similar industry operating at a senior level.
  • Ability to travel around their assigned Business Unit area as required.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in HS &/or E.
  • Professional certification/membership (or working towards) .
