This role requires full time on site presence.

CBC Northwest Territories (NWT) is seeking a full-time permanent reporter-editor to join our Yellowknife newsroom.

Were looking for a self-starter whos able to pitch research and report stories that are topical and meaningful. You will be part of a small but dynamic team that covers the NWT and beyond for a diverse audience. You will work to deadline daily gathering writing editing and packaging content for video digital and audio platforms.

The successful candidate will be a strong writer with a background in journalism or a related field. This position also requires a strong team player who understands time management and pays attention to details. You may be asked to work a variety of shifts including early starts and late finishes and weekends.

Tasks/responsibilities:

  • Pitch research write and package original stories for all CBC platforms that will engage and inform the audience deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.

  • Respond quickly to breaking news events chasing gathering writing and packagingstories for digital radio social and video.

  • Regularly present stories on-air on radio and TV providing background and context to enhance the audiences understanding of issues.

  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts in the Northwest Territories.

Requirements:

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a news and breaking news environment.

  • Knowledge of CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Strong understanding of reporting for video and audio platforms.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of the politics and issues of the Northwest Territories.

  • The ability to speak a language Indigenous to the NWT will be considered a major asset.

  • Valid drivers licence.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
